Here's a topic about Excel Saga, both versions. I got into it via the anime, which was nice with the slapstick, gags and references, but soon after I found the manga. For those who have only tried the anime, the manga is a lot calmer, with more characterisation, and a much more satirical sense of humour. Which isn't to say it doesn't have some of the anime's wackyness at times.

Also, since the manga is still running, there are naturally some characters and events that were never seen onscreen. I for one would have loved to have seen Elgala animated. And of course there's Dr. Iwata, who complains about them cutting his role down.

I also enjoy reading the Oubliette section at the back, which explains some of the jokes and word plays, and the references.

I'm going to go with the Manga, I was introduced to it through the Anime however, the lack of any kind of characterization and Zaniness only works for so long and in some situations, alot of the time I had to almost WANT to like parts, now don't get me wrong it was great, but the Manga is where the substinance is at

I havent read the manga, but i could see how it would..well...make more sense.
I'm a big fan of the anime thought, no matter retarded it gets at times.
