Ryoko looks hot, but her additude is stuck between mean, and being nice.

When it comes to gaining Tenchi from Ayeka, and many other instences, she is out right rude. But when it comes to talking to Tenchi 1 on 1, and absolutly no one else is involved, she is nice, and more ( con-sid-er-it ). When people say that Ryoko is untamible, I tend to disagree, it seems that Tenchi has a serton influince that he is not even aware of because of his first impression of Ryoko. When Tenchi becomes aware of the influence he has on Ryoko, he will be able to calm Ryoko down and convert her to being a much more "Loving and Caring" person, untill then, Ryoko is mean.

( she used to be a Beast, but Kagato is dead now, so she is just Mean )

I can't wait for the 3rd OVA to come out ^.^!!! But I will.

I like flashy guns, cool swords, and lots of power!!!But I also like little pet cabbits too! :)

I disagree if they decide to turn her into some kind of wuss, then you will see her appeal go down. Most people like her because of the attitude, she represents what many see as the American female personna and Aeka is seen as a more traditional Japanese female, they balance each other.
"He who fights with monsters might take care, lest he thereby become a monster. And if you glaze for long into the abyss, the abyss glares also into you."

I didn't say wuss, and they would not change her to the degree you are thinking, only enough to where tenchi will enjoy her presents more, not to the extant that she stop fighting with ayeka, becoming predictable ( to the characters on the show at least ), and stop being devious.

Your taking what I said to an extreme.
I like flashy guns, cool swords, and lots of power!!!But I also like little pet cabbits too! :)

Maybe wuss was a little to strong, but I think to mellow her out would destroy the dynamics and tension that makes it enjoyable. Besides some of their problems stem from Ryoko's past and her attack on Jurai and Tenchi is just another excuse for the two of them to fight over. The reason I like Ryoko is her short temper, fiery personality and devil may care attitude.
"He who fights with monsters might take care, lest he thereby become a monster. And if you glaze for long into the abyss, the abyss glares also into you."

Heh, and when exactly did YOU stop being a newbie yourself, ISC?

All things aside, I don't think Ryoko will become a "wuss" she will just choose different ways of expressing her feelings for Tenchi and perhaps act more "girlish" and giggly which wouldn't destroy her character. She is a powerful "strong" character.

Ayeka and

Quote:
I disagree if they decide to turn her into some kind of wuss, then you will see her appeal go down. That looks like you just copied and pasted what I used to say when people talked about how the show would be better without Ayeka. The two characters need eachother in order to be popular because they are so black/white and represent completely different things.

While I disagree with your ignorant cultural assumptions after studying Japan about the "traditional" Japanese woman and the "Strong" American Woman, I too felt that before I studied Japan.

When you study a foreign culture it gives you a great amount of insight into your own culture and allows you to almost see it from an outside point of view. True, Ayeka represents a lot of ideals in Japan, but also represents the ideal woman in ANY kind of paternal society.

Women like Ryoko are often scoffed and feared. Men fear any kind of woman with power. Which is why you hardly ever see a man and a taller woman, and why women in this country are afraid to show how intelligent they are in school. How many of you have ever discribed a girl as being "bossy". The truth be told that term almost exclusively is used to discribe a woman. Anyone who has ever used the term to discribe someone probably used it to discribe a woman not a man. Because women are NOT supposed to tell people what to do. Societal values that exist in all parts of the world dictate the subservience of women to men.

Now, before I go off completely on the sexism that exists in the US (We are the most sexist Western country) I just want to point out the dangers of cultural assumptions. If any of you are interested in sexism and societal pressures in America I suggest you read "SLUT! : Growing Up Female With a Bad Reputation" by Leora Tanenbaum, which is a book which focuses entirely on the term slut and the repression of women in the US. It's a fascinating book which even with it's limited scope just shows how how subconscious and hidden we make sexism in this country.

Be careful where you tread. Cultural assumptions are very very dangerous and I suggest before you make an assertion like that you ought to truly study Japan and then take a good look at the West and in particular the US.

And don't take this personally, I have made the same mistake too. I think this is an important topic to bring up though and I would love to discuss it with the other members of the board. ^.^

It is very true that Ryoko and Ayeka balance each other out. That's why Sasami will be chosen and both Ryoko and Ayeka can go on fighting.

I am the one.

I am Tsunami's apprentice.

I am one of the few

able to produce

10 Light Hawk Wings!!

Yeah, well Tenchi will probably have to wait a few years if he plans to pursue a relationship.

That is, if you are talking about OAV 3. I don't know about Japan, but in America bad things tend to happen when people see a 17 year old "going out" so to speak with an 8 year old.

Please enlighten me on what you're saying.
Neo Kamidake

There are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that cannot easily be duplicated by a normal, kindly family man who just comes in to work every day and has a job to do.

No one is ever a villain in his own eyes, keep this in mind.

Once you accept his assumptions even a madman seems reasonable

Visit Neo Kamidake's Realm!

That is illegal according to Japanese law.

I believe the legal consenting age is 16 in Japan. (17 States also have the minimum age at 16 in the US)

^.^ What is Yuje looking at right now? ^.^

Join the Fight! | Why we fight.

I know this board is kinda old, but I don't care. Ryoko is my fav person in Tenchi too. Because of everything about her. Looks included. Actually, she's my fav girl in any anime. Ayeka is a whiny little bitch. (sorry Ayeka fans) She wouldn't be so bad if she would just loosen up. *under my breath* And let Ryoko have Tenchi.
