09/12/2014: My previous attempt at renaming the directory to foil the spambots did not work. I'm trying now to change the login information for the SQL database. There may be a little bit of downtime but it shouldn't take long.
09/11/2014: I've been having problems with spambots preventing legit users from being able to sign up correctly. I've tried changing the directory from bbs to forums. Hopefully that will stop them and I can remove the retrictions stopping real users from signing up. Sorry if some of your bookmarks have become broken. They can be fixed by replacing bbs with forums in the properties.
I've heard rumours that a boxed set of DVDs featuring all the episodes of the first two Tenchi Muyo OAVs is available in America... Is this true?

If so, does anyone here own it, and again if so, would they recommend it?

And (my last demand - honest!) would anyone like to recommend a website I could order it from who would be able to send it to the UK?

...

And pie, I want pie.

That's all.
---------------------

"Was it the riches of the land, powers of bright darkness, who lead the noble to the East, to fight the heathens... Yes, it's called the Ultimate Edition, the only way you could get the OAV on DVD here.
I don't own it (I have VHS copies), but it comes with the encyclopedia (which isn't accurate on alot of things)
You can buy it @
www.animecornerstore.com , they ship everwhere.
Vist my board:http://pub95.ezboard.com/bbobnation

EUJ, it can be found regularly on e-bay. If you don't like the auction thing, you can buy it straight out from The Anime Corner Store TMOVA. At USD94.98 it's a pretty good deal for a new set. I've bought from this site before and their service and products are excellent.

Uh, what's with the nurse's outfit Washu-chan?

Edited by: mjhennessey at: 9/13/02 7:24:44 pm

United publications are very good, they are fairly expensive but the DVD will be with you very soon, they are very reliable etc ^_^

"IÂ’m Limo from Scotland so give me haggis" - Theme From A NOFX Album - NOFX
Visit my Final Fantasy Site and My Board ^_^

Edited by: Linden Ryuujin at: 9/14/02 3:26:44 am

Most likely OVA series 3 will be released as a box set of its own. If I was a marketing guy, that's the way I would do it.

Uh, what's with the nurse's outfit Washu-chan?

whether i like to admit it or not, I would say that the best stategy would be to release each oav as its own "single-disc package"; as follows:

OAV1
(ep1-6)
plus Encyclopedia and Other Cool Stuff
$40

Tenchi Muyo! Special Set
(ep7 + Mihoshi Special)
plus Interviews and Documentaries
$40

OAV2
(ep8-13b)
plus Addition Cool Stuff
$40

OAV3
(ep14-19)
plus Any New Cool Stuff
$40

"cool stuff would naturally be anything cool from ads to info.

Eventually it will wind up that way, being sold as single discs. It is more flexible that way, someone needs only to buy the disc(s) they need, and it's easier to get your customer to cough up 40 bucks than 80 or 120.^^

Uh, what's with the nurse's outfit Washu-chan?

I think it's more likely that OAV3 will be released over several individual discs, containing 2-3 episodes each, at the standard DVD price.
---------------------

"Was it the riches of the land, powers of bright darkness, who lead the noble to the East, to fight the heathens... That's the way GXP is currently being released in Japan, two episodes per disc. And the prices are outta sight, around USD80.00! They really know how to getcha!^^

Uh, what's with the nurse's outfit Washu-chan?

I think 95 is pretty expensive...especially since I got the NGE box set for only 110.....

if you want to get the OVA box set, and don't mind it being used
i'll sell ya mine for $50 shipped
email me lexusis911@hotmail.com

Uhh, folks the US DVDs wont work in the UK. I am running on the assumption that Uno is still accross the pond which may or may not be true.

Let's discuss some stuff just because I am bored...

Things that will be covered in this discussion: Evil DVD Regional Codes and PAL/NTSC.

1. Evil DVD Regional Codes

Many of the execs at the movie companies and the MPAA felt that the adaption of VHS (While cheap) didn't give them enough control over prices in different countries. The world was already divided between PAL and NTSC systems (The differences I will explain in a moment). They devised a fairly simple way of dissuading people from importing VHS. They made European/Asian/US VHS casettes in different sizes so a VHS tape bought in a certain country wouldn't fit the size of the deck purchased in another country. In the end it boiled down to control. The DVD was created entirely so that the big companies could control and limit the consumer. It is all about control from the CSS scrambling scheme, to the closed-architecture model, to non-standard MPEG-2/1, and Regional Codes. Regional codes is a system to prevent people from buying cheaper DVDs elsewhere to play on there home systems. Each country (Sometimes a group of countries or a continent) has it's own Region Number. For example the Americas are Region 1. A DVD bought in the US/Canada will NOT play on a DVD player purchased in Europe (Region 2). See image:

Region Map

Mind you this is an oversimplified map as within EACH of these regions there are Type A, and Type B. So people in Europe can't buy DVDs from Japan and play them...well easily anyways. ~.^

2. PAL/NTSC and the crippled younger brother SECAM

This was a system that actually wasn't created to stifle the consumer (Pretty neat huh?). It was actually a cost thing. PAL runs in a native 800x600 resolution (Think computers). It displays a higher quality image and a "larger" image. It stands for Phase Alternating Line. NTSC created in 1954 (Hasn't changed a BIT since) based on the standards pushed by National Television System Committee runs at a native 640x480 resolution, which means it runs a "smaller" picture and a lower quality image. And considering it's age it is a JOKE we still use it.

What about SECAM you ask? SECAM is a joke created by the French (Only they are the only ones who aren't laughing). Well, of course the French have to have there VERY own (and inferior) broadcasting standard. It's pretty much designed to be exactly like PAL, only the French were too arrogant to go with PAL. Since they are the ONLY country who uses it TVs in France are very expensive. It's main flaws are poor reception, and problems with colors.

If you are interested in learning more about broadcasting standards go here: http://www.alkenmrs.com/video/standards.html
The basic gist is that American DVDs will not play on any TV or DVD Player designed for the PAL system. Likewise goes for PAL DVDs on an NTSC system. (Regional codes aside.) There are combo systems but all the ones I have played with have not worked terribly well. The only good one was forced off the market due to legal pressures. Poor APEX. *Sniff*

Quote:
That's the way GXP is currently being released in Japan, two episodes per disc. Most series DVDs contain 1-2 episodes and still cost about $90. Anime is expensive in Japan, infact the cost of living in Japan is one of the highest in the world. The only thing you can get for cheap there is Manga. Everything else is horribly over-priced...including Anime.

So that is that...any questions feel free to post them below.
INTEL INSIDE
It's not a marketing gimick, it's a warning label.
Edited by: El Uno Jigglioso at: 9/19/02 5:28:23 pm
