OVA (or OAV, as it's also sometimes referred to)is short for "Original Video Animation" (or "Original Animated Video").

See, each episode of the original Tenchi Muyo! series (shown on Cartoon Network as "Tenchi Muyo!") was released in Japan as an individual video (it's a pretty common way of doing things in Japan - the series is released on video and, if successful, then maybe gets a series made for TV - as is the case with "Tenchi Universe" and "Shin Tenchi Muyo!").

There are actually two seperate series of Tenchi Muyo! OAV, the first being episodes 1-6 and the second being 8-13 (the seventh episode in the series is considered being in-between the two series).
Work is currently being completed on a third series of the OAV, picking up the story directly from episode 13 of Tenchi Muyo! - this will be released in Japan later this year, and wil appear on US shores a little later. It is yet to be seen whether this series will see a release in Europe, although an Australian release looks highly likely.

Hope that clears things up a bit! ^^
---------------------

"Holy Quest, Tacos, it's all good."
