I've seen a few OVA and Universe episodes on there, though I never really bothered to check them out yet. |

I don't suppose you could tell me whether I can find Shin… oh, wait. I forgot. That's the one the chumpstains took over. My bad. Forget it. |

I'm not trying to blast anyone or anything. The deal is, there's a good and a bad to everything, including the Shin series. And trust me, the bad has been noted moreso than the good. But first, let me mention the good. The bright spots. The EDGE of the Shin series. The Shin series introduces to us Sakuya Kumashiro, who basically wins Tenchi over the minute she sees him, because she's so different from the alien girls (all of whom he loves loyally with all his heart, but none of which he could bring himself to choose to be his one true love, due to certain qualities of them). Turns out, Tenchi and Sakuya were both going to the same school, and the same class, even. Throughout the series, we witness the blossoming of Tenchi and Sakuya's relationship, as well as the division of the Masaki house as a result of it. But the two major bright spots of Shin, are the introduction of a sudden and different kind of antagonist (that being Yugi), and the growth of Sakuya as a character. And the fact that Sakuya grows to defy the whims of Yugi as her emotions truly develop, leads to this… conflict of interest, that is the huge debate over Sakuya. It, as well as her applying in the physical senses, really makes me believe that she is real. And for those who are not quick to hate her (like me), that's enough to watch through to the end. Just to see Sakuya come and go, because she earned him. Oh, yeah, and because the series is left at an endpoint from which it could easily be continued, that kinda forces you to think about it. Which is what I will finally admit I liked about the series, and what I'm guessing got Minagi into anime. However, the bad part of the series lies in the characters really not being very much true to their character (not to be confused with saying "not being true to their character at all", there's a difference). I mean, sure they talk the same way, and they have the same basics about them, but there really isn't that much (not to be confused with saying "there really isn't any") depth and maturity to the main Tenchi characters in the Shin series. I mean, come on. Tenchi telling the girls to never speak to him again? Not likely. Ryoko giving up on Tenchi when she sees him in a kiss with Sakuya and going back to a life of crime? Seems abit downright desperate. Dunno how un-Ryoko-like it is or isn't, but I get the feeling she probably wouldn't do that right then and there. The complete implosion of the household's way of life? Buildup was fair enough and makes sense, but still looks to me like they're not quite as mature as they're supposed to be. What's more, like Zhuge said, it does begin the subduing of the major battle for Tenchi, making it seem like the pairigs TenchiSakuya and TenchiRyoko are being shoved down our throats. There are several different parts where, had this been done with the the OVA, we would have been able to enjoy maybe about 2-3 more catfights about Tenchi, which may have involved Ryoko and Ayeka, and probably even Sakuya. Speaking of which, that also makes it look like the writers are tired of Ayeka, seeing as how she practically seems to give up on Tenchi, and she and Sasami are the only two girls left to try and speak to him, like the whole world's given up on them. The fact is, while the Shin series did post itself well in terms of where they were going with it, and how well its additions to the cast of characters turned out to perform. But knowing the things about the OVA and Universe that were the most liked, and seeing how far Shin deviates from that alot until the ending episodes, you figure that the people who worked this one missed quite a bit of something, and you can't help but think… what happened? I don't completely dislike the Shin series, as much as I may look like it. If I did, why would I like Sakuya? I just happen to see the numerous errors and omissions resulting in the majority of the public's strong dislike of everything about it, and in my calling the writers chumpstains for letting this happen. That's not to say I completely hate it, and/or that I don't see what's good about it. In fact, I'd say quite the opposite, especially back when I was watching it. Seeing as how push has come to shove in an instant, I think I just faced the facts. Now I know why something about what I said before didn't feel just right… not quite like that's what I was supposed to say. And that's the truth! |

Well, now you know my position in its full entirety. And you probably understand I'm a complex guy. I can see the good and the bad in mostly everything, and only focus on one until I see the spot for the other's chance. Obviously, Shin is an example. Oh, and by the way, I did find some episodes of Shin on youtube as well. |
