That reminds me, in GXP, we saw in episode 17 that Tenchi has grown somewhat. He's comfortable with his powers as seen in his race with Seina. He's more "in charge" at home. In the floating onsen, he put Ryoko in her place. Then, he cooks chicken nabe (and may be doing so with his powers) while the girls patiently wait. ^_^ So Shotgun's concerns are at least on K-sensei's mind. It will be interesting to see how he addresses this in his GXP novels. |

GXP is a good series for one thing and one thing only, in my opinion - Seiryo Tennan. Aside from that, it doesn't quite have the Tenchi edge. There are a lot of plotholes, a lot of unecessary characters and explanations are missing when they might be needed. Some major events are glossed over (like Ryoko B. becoming a GXP officer), and the innuendo has gone beyond amusing into coarse and ugly a lot of the time. I thought that Tenchi seemed cold and distant in the episode we see him in, in that. The girls all lacked most of their personality (they and Yosho spend their segments info-dumping advertising material for the OVA into the script), and there are a lot of major contradictions going on with it and the original OVA premises. I'm really confused now with what direction Tenchi is going on. After seeing the sham that is Seina Yamada's marriage, I think plural wedding is a cop-out plot ending considering how much tension has been worked up in the original two OVA parts. But I suspect that's where we're heading. I can't actually see Tenchi making up his mind just yet. I'm not sure he's boring, in the OVA. He just seems stampeded from time to time by the girls because they have more - shall we say - emphatic personalities. And in the OVA3, most of them get stampeded personalities to make room for Noike, anyway. So I guess if there's an OVA 4, by that time they'll all be paint-by-numbers characters and we'll be playing fill-in-your-own-personality with them :S I still feel that Tenchi himself is best portrayed in Tenchi Universe and worst portrayed in Tenchi in Tokyo, with the OVA somewhere in between.
