What are you talking about? There is no OAV 4. And yes, OAV 3 has long since completed. |

When I was working on the image gallery today, I saw a whole bunch of pics from the OAV 1 and 2. I was just sitting there wishing that Tenchi could re-capture that greatness. The character depth was amazing back in those series. Even Tenchi Universe had a pretty deep back story but never achieved the depth that the OAV did. Its such a rich world to work with its a shame they don't delve deeper into it. |

I can remember reading somewhere that Mr. K said that he had enough story material for Tenchi Muyo to make something like 9 to 12 OVA series like the three that we have now. Like Neelick said, there is much depth to the story and characters, so I tend to believe what I had read back then. However, I also think that ANB is right and it's not very likely that we'll ever see any more Tenchi OVA's. |

While I liked OAV 3, the problem is that Kajishima-sensei got lost in texture and forgot the story until the last episode of OAV 3 (19 overall). I liked seeing Seto-sama and Airi come into the series because they should have been there. Tenchi having an older sister served a purpose in proving the theory that Nobuyuki was about 200-years old. I liked seeing Misao and Mashisu. I liked seeing Ryoko developing a bond with Ryo-chan. And episode 19 was very good, but too much was crammed in. The problems started with how much time was wasted on Sasami-chan and Noike preparing a meal. Then when the GXP Special Forces launch their attack, I was eager to see a fight in episode 18, but no, we didn't get that. The fight was over and we got a flashback of Sasami-chan's fight. That's was HORRIBLE writing and direction. And as I said, episode 19 was rushed. If K-sensei had more episodes to work with, then he could have done the texture stuff. Unfortunately, with only six episodes, he wasted way too much time. I know he prefers "day in the life" stories, which is why episode 7 is his favorite. But he can come up with good stuff. The chapter in Yosho about Ryoko's attack on Jurai is very interesting (what I've seen translated). Unfortunately, while his story-telling his good, his writing is poor (as see in his doujinshi) and he does need a force to keep him focused (which Hayashi did in OAV 1). But since he's a huge prima donna, no one wants to be in the role of keeping K-sensei on target. ^_^;;; |

Hmmm, OAV 1&2 are awesome! OAV 3 is a paid for (by you) commercial for GXP(now reduced from $29 per disk to $9....who would have seen that coming.....and they still line the shelves at the local outlets while other full price anime are sold out quickly....)and other material not available in English and meant for a Japanese audience. TU was a longer, more entertaining series in the long run for people not fluent in Japanese; or people not buying into the harem ending. I have given up on any more worthwhile TM, as I don't like where it's going. But that's my opinion...For those that DO like OAV3(and no offence to ya'll), I recommend reading the Dune series by Frank Herbert if you want God-like heroes and political intrigue, and plots within plots...just who is good?, and who is evil?,...very well planned, and very well executed...much more controversial and much more intricat than TM OAV 3. And I AM assuming that those of ya'll that like OAV 3 are fans of this type of drama, and that alot of you have read Frank Herbert already!!! I saw Star Wars as a pre-teen, second run, at a drivein-theater a year after it's release (we were in Germany for the first run, and it never made it there). The line to get in was over a mile in the little 'Loosiana town, and we missed the first 5 minutes. I've been a rabid fan ever since, and that doesn't keep me from criticizing the Ewoks (ok, they were cute, but an obvious marketing ploy) and Jar Jar (why did they have to introduce Jar Jar?) and question the implausible and barely explainable marriage of Aniken and (what's her name, God, I can't even remember her name! Leia's mother, with the wierder hair and the more wierd makeup!)!!! All my time any money invested in the Official Star Wars Fan Club was for naught; except my brother got a "Revenge of the Jedi" poster I bought for him...whatever...so goes TM...there comes a time when the creater disconnects with an audience....that time is now, at least for me, and many other fans I know. But I still love the old stuff.....and hope for the future... ann |

The good thing about OAV3 is that since 'changes to the timeline' were a large part of the conclusion of the final episode, you can pretty much write off any of the events that happened during the series. That's my excuse anyway! |

I tried DUNE but it was way too heavy for me at least at that time (years ago) But then I was guilty of the same sin I suppose - The Tenchi story I wrote (was writing) was going to have that same sort of "who's bad? who's good" aspect. It was going to turn out that the Dikatsu were covertly incited to attack by Azuza's father, as an excuse to expand the empire, and pillage their homeworld's resources. Feeling they were righteous but defeated, they were ripe to be incited again by Kagato, who had been given the means to capture Tsunami by Tokimi. But that too was a lie, as Tokimi plots to have Kagato "kill" Tsunami (which would return her to the goddess realm). In the end, it would be shown that she was actually trying to SAVE her sisters, as she felt that the universe was nothing more then a failed experiment. Basically she wanted to get her sisters out of the Petri dish before she cleaned it out and sterilized it. Clay wasn't in the picture, and I guess in the end the only purely "bad guy" was going to be Kagato. But even he had a reason - dating back to the founding of Jurai and his resentment when he - then the leader - was NOT chosen by Tsunami and was supplanted by the then low class Misaki... That was to be the start of his obsession, which would lead him to extend his life by become a being of pure energy.... Remember this was concocted by me BEFORE OVA3.... SO you see, I'm being brief and it's still getting complicated.... I should have seen that it was overly ambitious. |

That sounds much more interesting than what we got......Tenchi marries every single woman, and girl in the free world, selected outer worlds, other dimentions, fictional characters, female relatives, female children (and grandchildren)....oh....I think I am refering to quotes from major players on other boards....I am going too far....and so does MK...(in my opinion). Hell, Just let him marry his great-aunt (or aunts) and get it over with, already!(oh, and his sister and the Goddesses who created the universe....) I just won't bother to pay for that disk, thank you very little. Dune is an awesome series....right up to about the 5th book when it went from intrigue to stupidity....or was it the forth or third...Patrick Stewart was awesome in the movie, though. Heyyyyyy! Whassss up!!! I like the way your story started and can forget (quite easily) the events of OAV 3! ann |
