This is actually my second amv; I want to edit the first one to add titles and - (it has cuss words in it!) My daughter asked me to make one she can watch and the idea is hers. Not a video I would have made of my own volition, but I think it's funny; and not too bad for a novice. Thanks to YorokobiAssaiki for his help!

....I knew making amv's was alot of work; but I had no idea how much fun it could be (programs crashing notwithstanding....)

Awesome AMV Shotgun! I've done a few in my time. I've lost interest in doing them since they're no longer really a main event at anime conventions. They still have an amv contest everywhere, but they're not really a lot of people there. I guess the idea of doing an AMV for a con kinda lsot its appeal to me if there weren't many there to see it.

So tell me, how did you get your video you used? For my first one, I had a video capture card which I pulled footage from a VHS tape. the video quality was pretty low. My 2nd I used a DVD ripping program. I got much better footage, but there was still a problem with interlacing.

So how you get the video? You rip it yourself or you pull it off a website or something?

I ripped all the footage using DVDx. It has a deinterlace filter installed; should you need it. Although I have just begun making amvs; I've been using DVDx to rip country music videos for my daughter to play on the computer, on demand, instead of searching through dvd's looking for her song.

Dvdx is not very user friendly; but it is free and it has a help screen and online guide. Yasa is more user friendly; but the free version only lets you rip 1/3 of a disk. It prefers you to rip by chapters, and is harder to get just the footage you want. That is usually fine for making amvs.

You must know that most newer dvds will require a css free pugin to rip clips. Not necessary, apparently with outright copy programs; dvd region + css free works with dvdx.

speeding up or slowing down some clips gave not so stellar results, sometimes. Just depends on the clip.

Thanks for the compliments!

ann

The de-interlacing automatically is really nice. Because when you're working with an amv, you're going frame by frame. And if you've got interlaced frames, its a bitch and looks like crap.

I shoudl make another AMV its been so so so long. I dont' even have premiere installed on this computer yet and I've had it since like November.

I found animemusicvideos.org is a great site for resources. I ever tell you I met a guy at Katsucon who claimed to be the admin of animemusicvideos.org? Well the guy was nice but he'd had a few drinks in him so who knows if he was really the guy.

I did most of my video editing with my older computer which was a Pentium 4 1.8. With 512 megs of ram and 128 meg video card.

My new puter, which I'm on now, is beefier. Intel Core 2 Duo running 2x 2.14 ghz processors with 2 gigs of ram. 256 Sapphire video card. I had a 512 card at first but it ran crappy. Oh its sweet :)

Anyway there was a technique called something like telecine which would reduce interlacing. It worked pretty damn well. I think it just removed interlaced frames. The final project in some cases was somewhat running at the incorrect speed, but when diong an AMV you don't use a particular piece of footage long enough to really see the strange changes in the video speed. So it wasn't really a problem.

Yeah, that's the filtering "telecine" or was it inverse-telcine? I can't recall - but yeah that's the one, as I recall you could set to remove the interlace, or replace it with a copy of the frame before, or the frame after.

Of course with replace you get a weird chugging of the motion as it repeatedly seems to freeze for a brief instant....

I wish they could just encode the DVDs with the right FPS!!

I will say that Sony Vegas does a good job of blending out interlacing when I do a high quality rendering of a video...
