tenchi muyo is almost as sad as Full metal alchemist.

Yea they are both really sad, but Tenchi wasnt meant to really be sad anyway, story driven of course, and you feel for the characters, but FMA is a downer, almost from the very beginning, its good dont get me wrong, but i really only ran through it once mainly for that reason

I was watching Universe today and there's a great scene at the end of 22 that I really like. Ryoko mischievously walks through the wall to sneak up on Tenchi who is staring outside, but stops in her tracks when she sees the serious expression on his face. Then there's a still shot of Tenchi looking out the window with Ryoko sort of frozen behind him. It fit the changing tone of the series nicely, because in the next episode, Ryoko wasn't her playful self at all. She was hardly in it at all in fact, she sits quietly while Yosho tells his story, and then later she overhears Tenchi and Ayeka talking and teleports off. She barely has a speaking part until her little fight with Kagato. And then of course, the next episode is No Need for Ryoko.

Scenes like that remind me of why I like Universe so much. Besides the whole canon/not canon thing, I think Universe is really well done, storytelling wise.

Its a very compelling story, i've always championed it, as good or better, then the OVA, for parts like that, for parts in the end etc, it just gets stigma from those who think its a "dumbed" down version of the OVA and thats not true at all, it just doesnt info dump you every episode like the OVA does

Stacked up against the OVA, Universe is better, both in my opinion and quality wise, especially after OVA3, that was the gamebreaker that set up Universe even higher

Plus nothing tops Universe's end, nothing
