Well I just thought I'd make a post in here telling everybody about my Anime Next con experience.

Anyway Anime Next is a convention in Secaucus, NJ. I've been going each year since their first one. This was the 3rd one they've held. They always have great guests which is why I went in the first place.

First year, Lisa Ortiz (Lina Inverse: Slayers), Richard Cox (Ranma Male type) and the voice actors for the dubbed Oh My Goddess. Had a great time got a pic with Lisa, overall had a great time.

Second year, was at different hotel, got to meet Tiffany Grant (Asuka: Neon Genesis Evangelion), and her husband who's like a higher up at AD Vision. Got pic with her and autograph on animation cell.

Third year, Guests were Richard Cox, who's now better known as Inu Yasha, Monica Soli who is Kagome, Lisa Ortiz again, Veronica Taylor (Ash: Pokemon, Amelia: Slayers), and of course Matt K. Miller (Tenchi).

I got to meet Tenchi, get his autograph and that night in the hotel bar he came in and played pool with a friend and mine. He was really cool. During the panels he did Tenchi saying some stuff like "Ryoko pass the banana cream pie!" and at a fan's request "I LOVE YOU RYOKO!!"

I got to meet Lisa Ortiz again and Veronica Taylor who both did voices for The Slayers which is one of my favorite animes. Got their autographs on an animation cel.

But easily Richard Cox stole the show. He was absolultely hilarous at all the panels he did. The line for his autograph was 3 hrs long so I didn' get his. But he was absolulty hilaroius doing Inu Yasha saying "Welcome to Burger King can I take your order?"

At one point a fan asked them each to talk about their favorite pie as their character.

Tenchi: "Ryoko pass the banana cream pie"

Kagome: "I hope that Inu Yasha likes this blueberry pie I baked him"

Inu Yasha: "I can't believe that Kagome baked me another blueberry pie. All I wanted was a freaking key lime pie"

On Saturday night I coudln't get in the cosplay, which my friend was competing in so ended up wandering around the con. I wandered into the "Cosplay Haters" group just cuz I wanted to see what they had to say. They explained that they don't hate fans who dress up. They enjoy that. What they hate is the comeption itself and the chaos that ensues from having 40+ groups who all have never been on stage before.

Anyway the cosplay haters group was one of the highlights for me. The people on the panel were all former con chairs from Otakon, Katsucon, who were all friends and discussing their most painful con moments. It was great to hear the stories.

One was why they don't allow real bladed weapons at cons. Apparently it was ok as long as you didn't use them until there was a cosplay competion where two samurai were throwing fruit at each other and cutting them in mid air. Apparently they left all the cantelopes all over the stage. So after that....... No bladed weapons at cons.

The people on the panel weren't even supposted to be on the panel they just didn't want to wait in the cosplay line, saw some of their friends in the room, and joined in. The real panel was doing the cosplay setup. One of the guys did the Mystery Anime Theater 3k at Otakon for 9 years so he was hiliarous.

Anyway, overall I had a really good time. Spent a lot more time goign to panels and seeing guest than I usually did and had a really good time. If you're in the NJ area I recommend going there next year. Its a small but really well done convention.

Oh Matt beat us in pool btw. I think he used his Jurai powers..

"God's in his heaven and all is right with the world"
- Nerv
Tenchi Muyo, No Need for a Homepage
Edited by: Neelick at: 7/1/04 3:38 pm

I don't remember seeing a solid snake. I did see one at Otakon this year though walking around in a box.

Secaucus is in New Jersey. They're holding another one next year at the same place I think. They had fliers at Otakon but when I asked if it was the same place as last year the person running the booth said they weren't sure.

Yeah Matt was cool. Richard Cox was really funny.

I've met Lisa before. She's been great both times I've met her. Just a normal girl who got into voice acting because her brother "Borrowed" her car without asking. She got a ride from one of his friends who happened to be casting Record of Lodoss War.

Slayers is another of my favorite anime. Watching Excel Saga recently. I like it a lot too

"God's in his heaven and all is right with the world"
- Nerv
Tenchi Muyo, No Need for a Homepage
