i recently got ahold of a huge collection of extra tenchi things, one of those things being a game called
"Tenchi Muyo: Gokuraku" for the Sega Saturn

Its an Encyclopedia type cd with tons of info on the series, the OVA timeline that is

the one thing i ran across though that shocked me was the name of Achika Masaki as Tenchi's mother (while i cant read very well into japanese i picked up on where that section was going, Rosetta stone helps, lol)

Many who feel Kajishima-Sensei's are the only canon relevant will say "well thats wrong as that wasnt his"

But whats important here is
1. This is the first AIC sanctioned encyclopedia of its kind for Tenchi, the FIRST
2. It pre-dates both the movies AND the True Tenchi Novels written by K-Sensei, and him naming her Kiyone Masaki

So i decided to look up some more info on the subject,among many sites, it lead me to a site previously lead by Punistation (Jen), and sure enough, it re-established what i had thought

So whats this mean?
well for me, this is proof that Achika is indeed his mother by "official" canon standings, and why do i believe that?

I'm not a huge fan of how Masaki Kajishima acts, lol and 2, assuming that everything after episode 6 is "only canon if by AIC" (because of the split between Hayashi, Kajishima and Hasegawa), we can base everything after that on who got there first, Achika wasnt only the first but like stated before she was "officially sanctioned" first

Case and Point, Achika Masaki is Tenchi's real mother

No complaints here! Achika's just a more interesting name ... and didn't we already get a Kiyone in the other universes?

Yes it is and yes we did, lol it just rolls off the tongue so well

The more I hear about Kajishima, the less I like him. =\ Tenchi may be "his baby" but as far as I'm concerned, he's an abusive parent! I really don't believe that he had the name Kiyone picked out for Tenchi's mom all along and this is good proof for that.

Also, it seems like the idea for her character changed over time. I remember in the first OVA, Yosho said something like "Tenchi's the serious type, just like his mother." But instead we're shown that she was borderline insane and all of Tenchi's warm fuzzy memories are apparently of his sister who is such a clone of their mother that he didn't notice the difference.

i think the idea for tenchi's mother was originally what achika turned out to be, back when they (Hasegawa, Hayashi and Kajishima) worked together, but when the split happened, Kajishima out of spite, didnt want to go along with the idea they originally had, (and that of Hasegawa using Kiyone as Mihoshi's partner) and after seeing AIC go with the Achika in anything that had to do with Tenchi at the time, so he created the character of Kiyone Masaki, AIC and Pioneer seeing the "original" creator of the character tenchi say his mother is something different, jump ship

OVA3 i dont really consider very seriously on that subject as its been said many times by many people, that was a part of the way K-Sensei could stick his nose up to some fans with pre-conceived notions,

I doubt he's that petty... but I don't know the guy, so I can't say for sure.

I dont know him either, thats just my theory based on what i know, who knows? i could be dead wrong, or i could be right about him

all i do know is Achika is his mother, lol

Well if popular rumour is anything to go by, we could assume he is fairly petty.
Damnit. I wish they'd just get the team together and knock out a new awesome universe. With original crew of course. The OVA has become so warped.

and wouldnt that be kickass? another series (canon spinoff, it dont matter) with JUST the original crew, i'd pay an arm and a leg to see it

btw another interesting tidbit that i found while doing research is, K-Sensei may be petty but hes definetly not against working with people on Tenchi Spin-offs, in both credit listings, Masaki Kajishima is listed as both Original character artist AND Supervising Animation director in TMiL2, which stunned me when i first came across it because
1. The animation in TMiL2 is drastically different even from TiT
2. Since he was Supervising, he said what went in, what was not good, which means he ok'd the way it went, (and this being such a huge step in the different direction from his precious OVA), i didnt know whether to be shocked he was ok with it, with his reputation, or actually gain respect for the man, lol

but the main thing is it gave me hope for a future in tenchi, but then again that was 10 years ago, and we've obviously seen a decline in his "tenchi" mental health, lol

He didn't stop Hasegawa from writing his/her (I forget which...) dojin novels, so I'm sure he's not against others adding to the story. That's the fun of Tenchi - there's so much that can be done with it.

Yes, there are so so many roads that could be taken with the characters because of their great foundations. The plethora of fantastic stories on FanFiction.net are testament to that.

I do wonder how popular it is in Japan these days though - surely people there have requested that he bring back the original characters..

Well since the magical project S and the sammy stuff is still popular in Japan, i'd harken a guess that Tenchi is still popular as its still a money maker, Its not as prominent in North America because there are no re-runs, there are no prominent Anime networks, and of the Anime they do show its mainly new stuff, and even thats stretched out, the Japanese on the other hand is what has the majority of the market, they have doujinshi we dont have, a multitude of untranslated products we dont, etc etc

ANB noted when i talked to him a while back that japanese fans are wanting a "back to roots" type thing for tenchi, like they want more of the original characters too, so its not just us, lol

and bkev i wasnt making K-Sensei out to be the "DONT TOUCH THAT ITS MINE" type character for everything, just the fact that he participated in TMiL2, seems not only out of his character, but that movie is just so different then even the first 2 movies and OVA, the farthest thing from the original, i was shocked he had such an important role in the animation
