Kagato's voice

Today I was watching the OAV in Japanese with the subs and it made me wonder something. Why does Kagato have such a weird speech pattern in the English dub? Does he have some sort of equal mannerism in Japanese? My untrained, unJapanese ears can't tell.

In Universe, it's the same voice actor for Kagato, but the way he talks is a little more normal compared to OAV Kagato.

I kinda got the impression especially from the part where he draws out the phrase when hes fighting Tenchi in the OVA "dont...waste...your...life" he did it to match the mouth movements,
his voice is very sly but poweful and that mannerism, fit the character (better then in Universe imo), thats something i always liked about the tenchi characters, they gave there voices character, not just there character a voice, lol everyone has something unique about them

kagoto had a great voice actor, really does suit him.

Hes such a sly dog, but hes no wimp either, and he took dying with style, cant beat that. Tenchi always had the best voice actors, ones (for the most part) that were uniquely Tenchi only, which made it even more rich

i love how he talks with that tinge of calmness and sophistication. it makes
very liekable as a bad guy if u know what i mean, it least respectful.

Hes one of my favorite villians for that, he just has a presence about him that only he can have, and his ability to put people in a hole is definetly respectable, he may not have lasted long but he left an impression

Sophisticated, evil, clerical, snake-like, and scientific. All defining character traits of Kagato that all had to be amplified together in presentation in order to truly give us the full depth of Kagato. And from what I could see, it was all there. Michael Scott Ryan got it to shine through about perfectly. My answer as to the question of why was it weird: so what if it was weird? It served its purpose, an awesome purpose at that, even better than one could ask for, and above all else, I would think that's what counts.

I'm not saying "weird" is bad. Maybe I put it poorly. I like his voice, I was just wondering if there was a reason for it, because in Universe he didn't give Kagato that sort of speech pattern. That's all.

I had a subbie friend (aka would only listen to Subbed anime, except like Cowboy Bebop which he thought was only DECENT) anywho

I showed him Tenchi Muyo a little while ago, and he said the dub cast was oustanding, but the the one character he thought did the best was Kagato, said it fit the character perfectly

and Kagato came off as more of a Jerk in Universe

universe was hell weird like that.
like kagato was the main badguy, yet you only see him in like 2 eps

Well Universe had some filler in it, but it wasnt bad filler by any means, because it still revolved in the linear main timeline (unlike the majority of Anime now, which have Monotnous amounts stupid filler which should just be a whole nother series all together, i think you all can name the couple i'm alluding to, lol)
