So i was watching Tenchi last night, OVA 2 ep 6, you know just for fun, when all of a sudden, the scene where Washu wants to put Zero and Ryoko together, except the entire time she refers to Zero as Ryoko, and everyone's like "What?" and she said she divided Ryoko into 2 parts because she couldnt control a complete Ryoko. Now i'm confused at this point, how was Ryoko divided in 2 prior to Dr. Clay copying her, because there was no copy? then Ryoko calls her a liar, and many people will site this as her leading them (and myself) on, but that still doesnt explain it, because according to Rolf (the whole 2 or 3 pages we had on Ryoko being a puppet) Washu still could control Ryoko when Kagato had her. But Washu still didnt refer to her as complete before she was copied, Kagato even called her "Waste Product" when he had her captured

So, was it all a ruse? if not, where was the other Ryoko? because assuming thats the reason and not the gems, which was thought previously Washu used for control.

This is a really good question and I was wondering what the answer was myself. My best explanation is that Zero is a complete copy of Ryoko, and thus has access to all of her memories, maybe the gems suppressed Ryoko's subconscious feelings in order to make her more efficient? I'm going to have to review that episode and see if I can find any subtle hints that I might not remember, interesting question though!

And that kind of brings up another inaccuracy, Again when me and Rolf were talking about her being a puppet on the attack on Jurai, this was 700 years prior, Washu gave up being a Goddess (or rather demoted herself and her power to the third dimension because of its destructive power over 20,000 years ago) that would mean she wasnt Washu-kami when the attack happened, so she still had a mind link and control, but how would she know Tsunami the way she did? (as its said she erased her own memory) she couldnt even remember Tokimi until OVA3. Plus, Washu stated the reason she figured out Zero was clay's logo and NOT the mind link through the gem, meaning that Washu had no link or control over Zero, that would lead one to assume that Ryoko was "complete" yet that potential was suppressed by Washu for control, but when Clay copied her, he made a complete copy voiding both the link and control. Doesnt really explain where the other half really was, as its an assumption but its good shot

Washu never said Ryoko was incomplete before that moment, so I'm pretty sure she's a liar and was making an excuse so she could merge Zero with Ryoko. Kagato called Ryoko waste product because she failed in capturing Tsunami and was beaten by Yosho - isn't that a good enough reason for someone like him to deem her as waste product? In Japanese, he just calls her "incapable" which seems to back up my viewpoint. That doesn't mean she was incomplete, that just means she wasn't able to use the gems as well as he had wanted her to. Later on he claims that the Souja is better at handling the power of the gems. Ryoko was as complete as she was ever going to be, unless Washu somehow finds a way for her to handle the gems better. As for the issue of control, I just took it to mean that Washu was saying that a "complete" Ryoko would have been too wild and powerful for her to handle, not to actually control.

So no, I don't think there's another Ryoko running around out there somewhere. I always thought it was pretty crappy that Ryoko merged with Zero because I thought she was fine the way she was, without being overly blushy and giggly. But whatever. Washu decided Ryoko would be better off that way.

You know what i just thought of something, you know how in order for Ryoko to be at her "full potential" (you know that god picture with the lighthawk wings and all) she has to be fused with Ryo-Ohki, maybe thats it, Washu created them at the same time for Kagato, but she knew she couldnt control the complete unit (meaning she cant control Ryoko if she has the 3 gems and is fused with Ryo-Ohki), So she was telling that story to be nice and spare Zero, but she also wasnt lying when she said split, because only Washu knows that potential of her masterpiece (singular meaning both Ryoko and Ryo-ohki) being "complete", she made 2 entities, but there always together because they were made to be one, that doesn't mean Washu loves them any less, but thats what i'm sure she means, it does kinda make sense as there names are very close to each other

The Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki bonding theory seems like a very good explanation to me. It actually explains the remarks quite nicely. I only wish they had elaborated on the fusion of the two in the third OVA and of course wish that Patrea had voiced Ryoko in OVA3

It just isn't the same after all the series and movies she did for her to be just about the only cast member that changed. Especially considering, she had one of the coolest voices. If they ever manage to make another OVA I'd want her back in there and I'd like them to have more interesting plot advances. The filler series just left me wanting more

Plus they picked a bad voice to replace her. Don't get me wrong, I like Mona Marshall. She did a great job as Izzy in Digimon, and I really liked her as Lucciola in Last Exile. But she just doesn't fit at all as Ryoko. They could have chosen someone who sounded more similar to Petrea. Mona's voice is closer to Washu's than it is to Ryoko's.
