Hooo boy. I just watched it on youtube, and while I have the dvd's at home it's been a while since I had seen them and I had generally avoided the dub even though I like a lot of the people in the dub.

Tony Oliver: Seina (he's okay as Seina) but he was fantastic as Lupin III.

Wendee Lee: Kiriko (she might be a 'three trick pony' but she's the most successful voice actress working right now cause she does those three voices so damn well.

Deborah Elise Fahn (I think I have this right): Amane. I thought it was hilarious that they gave this role to her since it was kinda working against type and she does a decent job. She was also hilarious as a Karou in Rurouni Kenshin.

So my point there...is this isn't the worst cast dub ever. What I do feel was terribly unfortunate was the crew they brought into do the Tenchi gang.

Tenchi: this guy was okay, he was kinda doing his own thing and he didn't sound awfull but he's no Matt 'Kermit' Miller.

Ayeka: Rebecca Forstaddt trying to do a british accent knockoff of Jennifer Darling's interpretation of the character. Totally not feeling it. And I have to get the feeling that she got that note or decided to imitate Darling because if she was simply going off the Japanese voice -- I'm pretty sure she would never have tried to do the older British voice.

Ryoko: It's Mona Marshall. Yeah. Well. So. This is awkward. I didn't see how she changed that much from GXP to OAV3 and whoever that intern was who couldn't tell the difference between Burchard and Marshall...well they were prolly having an out-to-lunch moment. The voice just didn't work.

Noike: I really didn't have that much of a problem considering I had no attachments to the voice or the character one way or the other. And for the record, Noike with short hair is just no. NO!

Sasami: A cute voice, I see where they got it. It's not Sherry Lynn but it isn't cringe-inducing.

Washu: On the other hand, this one is. Either the actress has a cold or was trying to do a Vogt. impression and rofflefailed. Who knows?

In conclusion, as an actor (on the theatre side) I kinda feel for these people. It's a tough business and it must be rough going up against the voice that fans have known and loved for a decade. So I don't blame the actors, I really don't. I think they did the best they could. BUt on the other hand, Funimation could have handled this better.

Oh well.

I will admit that while I called Wendee Lee a 3-trick pony, she has some serious talent. Faye Valenetine? Case and point.

Again, this shows Marshall at her worst. She really does better in the OVAs. Also, is that Bob Pappenbrook I hear?

It was a sad day when Jay Hopper stopped doing the voices. His Nobuyuki/Katsuhito was spot on.

Indeed. I never minded Bob Pappenbrook, but Jay Hopper was more suited for the role. Both give WONDERFUL performances.

Also, I realize now that I've come off as a Mona sympathizer. I'm not. She's not that good, but she really gets better.

Jay Hopper was the better of the Katsuhito/Nobuyuki actors, but like Bkev said Bob Pappenbrook was a very decent replacement

Its ok Bkev, the only time i've ever heard Mona Marshall NOT sound like Mona Marshall was when she did Julian Moore in Armitage Dual Matrix, when i saw her name as him in the credits i had to double take, like wow really? nice job on acting, bet every other role since then, not so much
