As i watch my kids host marathon viewings of many anime here at the homestead, i wonder just what happened to TM that they no longer want to watch it.....and the answer boils down to noike. they watch many anime that introduce new characters over time, some become more involved over time and some just fade away, but the old tried and true characters are with the story, and remain central to it through out. how can any character compete with noike? she's perfect. kyione wasn't. she had her problems, and we loved here character. but, she wasn't cannon so she had to go. now we have a host of characters and the origionals have to take a back seat to their development. and now the rules have changed. kagato and ryoko weren't very powerful, seto is the alpha and omega. ok, why didn't she stop them. what, was she on lunch break or something? but she knew what was going on, and still let it happen? maybe jurai didn't need anymore janitorial services, because that seems her favorite punishment. weellllll, maybe she's punishing me, because i still have to clean my own bathroom. piss poor revisionist writing and that's why the kids and their friends will watch everything from ranma 1/2 to baki the grappler but no more tenchi muyo. shame really. take something great and ruin it. any thoughts? ann |

Well first OVA3 (and GXP for that matter, here comes another one, lol) Aren't quality anime at all, not even to the loyalist of Tenchi fan, so if we dont like it, no way someone whos never heard of it is even going to go near it. The first 2 Tenchi OVA and Universe, are not only my favorite anime, but i consider some of the best anime I've ever seen, I've quite a collection so thats a statement to make Really it all started in GXP, because it traveled over into OVA3, everyone can say "Well it ties up loose ends" If you took out EVERY new character or GXP reference and had it been a "True" sequel to OVA2, it would have been better in every way (well almost the story kinda gets thrown into a blender and had i not been super Tenchi Mythos i wouldnt know where half the things in OVA3 went to anyway). My point is, People are going to still love Tenchi, but it stops after 1999, those were the golden years, Canon no longer matters to me in terms of whats released, because all of it is almost utter crap (although after 4 episodes of Saint Knights Tale, i'm starting to like it a bit, hope Kaji doesnt drop the ball again, harem weddings anyone?) |

Of course it's going to end in a harem wedding, because it's Kajishima. Heaven forbid he decide to go in a different direction. Or maybe he's incapable of it. Whatever the case, I believe he's a one trick pony. So don't get your hopes up. |

As far as I'm concerned, after OAV2, the franchise was mishandled by multiple people. It all makes it no fun, really. For Kajishima, I think he should never have written the background novels, the TTNs. When you start developing the story away from the medium (anime in this case) too much, you and the audience are seperated by a wall, and the storyteller tends to lose the thread of who knows what, as well as just developing it too much. In his case, his background BECAME the story, and that was bad. I take comfort in all my hentai doujins showing Tenchi and Kiyone becoming lovey-dovey wetnsloppy. They are a beautiful couple. I don't feel anything positive or negative with Noike in doujin. She elicits no passion from me whatsoever. I guess she's boring or at least the story she is in. |

i have to say that i watched speed grapher when a friend loaned it to me, and i was on the verge of ordering it, until i saw the ending. i won't give it away - but i felt i was cheated out of the time i invested in watching it. and i was cheated out of time and money with OAV3 and GXP. check your local second hand store if you want these stinkers....i'm sure they are there for pennies on the dollar. ann |

To be honest I don't understand how people like these, yet i'm shocked at the rate they are still selling, being both a frequent customer of Right Stuf and my Local FYE, Right Stuf SOLD OUT of there GXP boxsets (3rd time since I've been a customer) and are ordering more, there OVA3 singles DVD's sell out quick, and my FYE sold another set of the single volumes of GXP, I mean really, they're NOT THAT GOOD, what do people see in them?, and they aren't discounts either, they are going for the same price as any other retailer sells them, am i missing something? lol |

Maybe once young toonami fans are rediscovering Tenchi now that they are older? I couldn't tell you, I thought that they wouldn't be selling any better then lead balloons nowadays. I guess it's a god thing, despite the fact people are shelling out for them that might make it all the more likely that they will bring in another series sometime within the next few years. That gives me a small consolation, although I certainly don't consider either to be of high quality. The animation is nice but everything else important was lacking. |

As big a steaming pile as GXP was in comparison to original Tenchi, it does make me feel warm and fuzzy that Tenchi still has fans stateside. That certainly is good news, we just need more of them to come here and post now =D. |

Awesome! We have been getting a nice bit of growth recently, and we've got sparkles here now as a new member! It's been good here lately ^_^, despite school starting everyone has been doing a good job of posting on a pretty regular basis =D. I have to watch Saint Knights Tale still. I'm planning on watching it tomorrow, I keep forgetting to. |
