Yay or Nay on nonanimated OAV Tenchi background?

I'm gonna have to say nay, There is just too much background thats not animated, and too many things many of us still can't wrap our heads around (many of which conflict with what we see and hear), and besides, had Kajishima made OVA3 right after OVA2, instead of making all this background story, it probably would have been amazing, Noike wouldn't have been such a...Noike, Z not only would have been a much more respected villian, but his battle would have been better, all the new characters would have been much more welcomed, hell theres a good chance we would have 4 or 5, maybe even 6 OVA's worth of material by now based on how much backstory there is to Tenchi, so yea

I do like it, but I want it animated, and then I would like it SO much more xD

I love the whole Washu/Naja etc thing. Trying to find out lots about it though is very difficult, and took me a while to wrap my head round some of it, and now i've ended up forgetting some of it ;_;

It's got so much depth, Tenchi... I like that.

I voted nay. I just want to get back the old feeling that OAV 1 and 2 had. I don't care much about (and in some cases, dislike) the background of Tenchi.

Let's be fair. I think we are being a bit myopic when we say Kajishima is ignoring English audience. How many fanfiction authors translate there stuff to other languages? How many relatively small-success things get translated to Japanese?

He isn't "ignoring" the English audience any more than he is ignoring his Swahili audience. He's Japanese. The Japanese ARE his audience.

It was Pioneer and now Funimation, who translated anime, that ignore the doujins. Or maybe that company that bring over Tenchi manga. Maybe they do so for business reasons (it not worth it). If it not worth it, then we fans have entitlement attitude that we not deserve.

It was very popular even before Toonami, too. Part of the reason why it got selected for Toonami was because of it's popularity. It was one of the big anime series back then and it was very well known and recognizable to almost every anime fan . Tenchi, Ranma, Pokemon, DBZ, Fushigi Yuugi and Sailor Moon (and some others that I'm forgetting) were like the Naruto, Death Note and Bleach of their time in terms of popularity.

But yeah, it did drop off after Toonami stopped airing it. That's sad.
