Now we all know that the idea of incest is there in Tenchi. My question is, what do you think about it? I'm creating this thread purely for the sake of discussion, so I don't want it to turn into a character battle. The real target here is based more around your ethnic, societal, and cultural views. State your opinion and explain, just a little blurb or you can go all out and write a dissertation!

My View: I'm definitely not a fan of the incest(label me anti-incest if you want), it isn't because of the genetic implications of fathering a child that can be considered my nephew or brother either. i won't go into too much detail, but it kind of disturbs me. The idea of having a relationship with a family member just does not sit right. I don't advocate the incest partnerships in Tenchi either, but I don't criticize them for the most part. Mostly because I've been raised on Western ideals in an area where such a thing is deemed socially irresponsible (and unacceptable). Also, I don't feel that it's my place to tell people how to live their lives, especially when "everyone is special and unique with different ideas". Anyhow, I've finished my part, now what do YOU think as an individual?

I'm semi-pro, semi-against. I don't mind sibling relationships in fiction. Brother/sister, sister/sister, brother/brother are all fine by me and in fact, I really like brother/brother. XD Cousins are ok too.

But anything with parent/child, grandparent/grandchild really really squicks me out and is a huge turnoff for me. Ugh. x_x
Aunts and uncles with their nieces or nephews is also a turnoff, though not as severely.

First of all, the incest in Tenchi Muyo! isn't as big of a deal as you guys seem to be making it out to be. Sasami and Aeka's relations to Tenchi are so distant (keep in mind that they are only Yosho's half sisters) that it won't cause any harm genetically. The only bluntly incetuous relationship I know of in the Tenchiverse was Yosho and Aeka, and that didn't go anywhere.

Second, what the incest among the Juraian royals is not as unusual as you guys think. Up until modern times, it was common practice among different royal dynasties around the world (the pharaohs of ancient Egypt being one good example) to marry one's relatives. It was believed that this kept the bloodlines "pure", and the genetic problems that arise from incest were not understood until relatively recent times.

Im against it. I just think it's wrong, although In TM OVA It doesn;t bother me with the Ayeka Yosho and Ayeka Tenchi thing THAT Much because it's a Royal family or something, and that was Jurai's way or something.
