I didn't care for Rea either. There's another bitch who should be killed. And I didn't like how they fucked around with Tenchi's mom. And as much as I like Airi, I thought that it was real fucked up of her and Tennyo to have fun with Tenchi's reaction to Tennyo, when they were talking about it over at Yosho's. |

Another thing that I would change about OVA3 if I was doing it is the way that Tenchi reacts to the news of having a sister, and a arranged marriage. If any normal person found out that they had a long lost sister, and a marriage forced upon them, I would think that they would be mad. But in OVA3 Tenchi seems to be ok with it. So I would get rid of that. |

First post *deep breath* I just finished watching the last episode of OVA3 last night, so some of the details may not be accurate. But after one viewing, here's what I know I didn't care for... Get rid of Mona Marshall. Not saying she was a bad voice actress, but Petrea Burchard IS Ryoko. Ryoko is considered by many as the favorite character of the show, therefore her voice is very recognizable. The drastic voice change made her personality seem to change as well. She is the (arguably) the lead female of the series and bringing back Petrea should have been one of the top priorities. It wasn't funny. At least I didn't think so. One thing that kept me drawn to Tenchi is the perfect mixture of comedy and dramatic storylines. OVA3 seemed so...serious. I always loved the goofy sound effects thrown in here and there, and the countless hilarious facial expressions (when their eyes get huge, or turn into small dots, etc.). OVA3 didn't make me laugh once. The music in OVA3 was a bore. The theme music and soundtrack in Tenchi is some of the best I've ever heard for a TV show. So many themes had that wacky "another crazy day" feel to them and they stuck with me well after I'd finish watching the show. Some other themes really captured the mood during battles, and the sad songs played during sad moments were what pushed me to shedding a tear a few times. Ryoko and Ayeka seemed pushed to the background. Big events always happened in the world of Tenchi, but everything seemed to ultimately come back to one question, "Which of these two will end up with Tenchi?" It was already bad enough they butchered Ryoko with a new voice actress, but now they've reduced her, along with the other lead female, to practically bit parts on the show. I couldn't get into any of the new characters really. I hated how Noike pretty much became the head girl of the house. Didn't care for Z. I was open to Misao at first, but then his character got old to me. And I still don't quite get how Tenchi had a sister all along and she just showed up out of nowhere? Maybe someone can explain that to me better. End of rant |

I don't watch anime. Anything I didn't watch when I was growing up, I just don't get. I'm too old for this Narootooo believe it and bleach stuff, how the heck is Clorox gonna wield a sword anyway? Some times I get hooked on the newer stuff, like Samurai Champloo and Bebop. I grew up with Tenchi, DBZ, Case Closed, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, etc...and that is pretty much all I watch when it comes to anime these days. I don't even call them anime, I just call them shows. I do like a lot of anime movies though, (Akira, pom poko, nausicaa) specially Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki stuff. I just see stuff like that as film and I don't really like to call it anime. To me those movies and shows deserve to stand on their own as film and entertainment. The 3rd OVA, to me, was pretty much what all this new stuff I see on tv is. It is something I would call anime incarnate. The animation is bright and shiny, but doesn't have that tenchi look I grew up with (case closed did it too) and like someone mentioned, all the really exaggerated faces became too frequent. I felt like I was watching one piece or some vibrant hyper show that people on youtube make memes out of...like lucky star or melonbelonwanancally whatever it's called. I'm basically calling The 3rd OVA the "carmel dansen" of Tenchi. I could probably say the same for GXP, but I only watched one episode, which was terrible. A better analogy might even be the "Dragonball GT" of Tenchi. Also, it confuses the hell out of me. I seriously had no idea what was going on, which prompted me to search for and find astroboys FAQ, so thank God for that guy. I recently re-watched the first and second OVA and was like.."hey, there's that one chick"..."hey, that's the green haired dude"..."man Ryoko is hot." Oh and it forced me to watch it in Japanese now, because I can't stand Ryoko and Mihoshi's voice. Which I guess is ok, because I love Ai Orikasa's voice and singing. Speaking of Ryoko, man...what did they do to her, they even made Ayeka a wimp, and I can't even look at Washu God's genie outfit. Absolutely dreadful. In all honestly it probably isn't even that bad, but my nostalgia runs deep and boils when I watch it. That didn't stop me from buying the complete set on dvd when I saw it at Best Buy though. So yeah....oh wait, what would I do different? Hmm... Not introduce 40,000 new characters, not put a chunk of the main characters my audience grew up with in the back seat, tone down on the incest, tone down the silliness, NO CGI WHATSOEVER, and many many more things. |

One other thing that I don't like about OVA3 is that they made Tenchi way too powerful. He breaks though like ten dimensions during the battle with Z. If and when theres a OVA4, I can't see how any villain could pose a threat to Tenchi when he's now all powerful. |
