I am a big fan of "Z", the OAV2 shadowy figure. Not of "Zetto", the ugly freak of OAV3.

Z could have been handsome. Zetto is icky ugly.

I think the story could have gone several ways, but my thoughts have a common thread that Z is Tenchi's son. Perhaps named Zehanpuryu'h, hence the shortening to just Z.

Outside of my story, I still think he should been Tenchi's son. Perhaps his future son with Tokimi. Perhaps son of another girl, one she kidnapped.

I like the idea of a fight which is a dilemma, because either result to the death is a loss to Tenchi. Perhaps his son doesn't know the fact, brainwashed or simply taken at a young age. Or maybe Tokimi is simply trying to bring Tenchi home and sending her son to get him.

Whatever. I don't understand who OAV3 Zetto is or his motivations. I would have liked something that struck closer to home.

Everyone else like how OAV3 Zetto turn out?

I loved OAV 3 Zhetto in concept, but not so much in execution. I thought there was so much potential in the concept of a guy who parallels Tenchi in many ways, except that his powers and his experience with the Chousin has only brought him misery and grief (as opposed to the happy life such things have brought Tenchi). And in his grief, he seeks revenge on Tokimi and her sisters by trying to screw up their plans.

But what really had a lot of potential was the fact that Z didn't actually hate Tenchi. Instead, he saw Tenchi as a fellow "victim" of the Chousin's meddling, and he views killing Tenchi as a way to free Tenchi of this percieved misery. I found that so much less cliche' than what your average fanfic writer might have come up.

It's a real shame that these concepts weren't developed to their full potential. I guess Misao and Masishu's romance was just too important to allow Z's story any time

edit: Oh yeah, and I as well prefer Z's design in OAV 2 over his OAV 3 design.

Episode 12 did have a shot of Z, but it was a bit more aggressive design with his arms crossed that I didn't care for. This screenshot is from episode 13.5, after Washu ties Ryoko up, she has tea with Mihoshi. Afterwards, Tokimi talks with D3 and then tells Z not to touch Tenchi, not to go against him.

yeh he was a good character but he looked so crap with his purple eye and all that other business lol.
also i think his voice annoyed me too.
weren't his motives in OVA3 basically just "revenge on the world"/"my life sux so im gona destroy everything!"?
besides that, i was just like "who is this guy? wahts goiing on? shut up! wait wut whos this person? OH FUK more jurain relatives! arghhhhh!"

I didn't mind the idea of Z. However the way they made him look was pretty lame considering how generally cool looking the girls are, and I thought that the fight [ if you can call it that] between him and tenchi was just really poorly planned out. I was expecting alot more out of him seeing as he had been stalking the household for so many episodes.

Given that one of the characters in the said 'fight' is someone who can destroy all of creation simply by existing too much, I always felt it would be stupid to have any kind of fight scene. There is no physical threat to Tenchi in the OAV universe, and it's waste of time to pretend there is. So I was glad when they didn't go that way.

I actually liked how OAV 3 turned out, as for Z i'm neither here nor there.
