REASONABLE Criticism of All the Characters in Tenchi Muyo!

Let's keep the animosity here... please? I know this is a silly attempt, but I'm sick of this being about personal attacks.

And by "reasonable", I mean state why you dislike this or that character. No coarse language will be tolerated, and a single instance of a personal attack in this thread or a moment of playing the victim and you. are. gone. And I mean it this time.

Now then where were we?

Very well, the only character I have a problem with Ayeka. And the only problem I have with her is that she doesn'st seem like someone who can laugh at herself. Other than that she's one of my favorite characters.

Other than that and the fact that Kiyone is a workaholic. :lol:

Ryokofan21, your civility is awesome around here at this stage. I can see exactly where you're coming from about the whole workaholic thing as far as Kiyone. People who are obsessed with their jobs don't generally get to keep healthy personal lives very long. However, I feel that there's more to Kiyone than wanting to be the top star of the Galaxy Police, and also that it takes the right person and/or situation to be able to bring that sweet side out of her. In any case, good to know we started with a reasonable opinion.

Before we go any further with the bashing trips, though, I'd like to point out something to the folks here in general. While most of the vocal brass here have been setting out to basically tear each other a new one for merely championing different characters on a freaking anime, to the point where any dissenting opinions about anything related to this anime have been met with utter derision and threads turning into complete jokes, there are actually some people who can still actually recognize some things that are just a little more important in the grand scheme of this thing that we call, um- LIFE.

Some of you may have been too busy trying to win control of this section to notice, but if you look in another part of the forum, such as say, the Rant Room, you may notice certain threads by our friend crumpets_the_wise, who I just call Crumpy or Crum for short nowadays, entitled "not emu". The first one deals with relationship issues that a lot of us would probably know a little something about, though not all exactly in the same way, but the more important one that I'd like to point you guys to would be the second one. See, Crum had a friend that passed away. Overdosed. And how is he repaid? By people who for the most part have been too worried about chasing anybody on the opposite side of the fence about Ryoko out of the forum and then crying "woe is me, woe are my friends, everyone can say and do anything they want except for us" to apply their conscience into anything in here but, on the rare chance they see a problem on their own side, telling their folks to simmer down, and of course couldn't see past their own superficial issues with each other to even look at a piece of the big picture and see what he's going through.

When I say this point, I'm not trying to single out any single one person. So if you actually bother to reflect on the statement above and don't think whatsoever that it applies to you, then I'm not talking to you. But if you can think back and feel for one second that had you better handled any part of the last six months, then maybe, just maybe, you would've had enough faculties left to see another part of this forum long enough to catch Crumpy and help him up, then I don't even need to say your name. You know who you are, and I'm pretty sure you know even better than I do.

Now, I'm not saying everyone has to go to the Rant Room and post condolences to Crumpy right now unless you actually want to, because forcing that hand would be a dishonor to his late pal and frankly, considering I'm in cool with bkev, possibly also go under politicking. However, I am asking you guys to take a second and think about something next time anybody wants to take it personally that someone else does not view everything about Tenchi Muyo the exact same way that they do. Think about this, seriously: taking moments to recognize how fleeting life can be for all of us and showing support to our friends when they most need it, or tearing each other apart on the Internet over Sakuya Kumashiro, Sasami Masaki Jurai, or Ryoko Hakubi - and according to kev's edict, getting ourselves banned from that same part of the Internet because of it. Which one is more important in the long run?

And that's all I have to say, at least for the time being.

The only character i'm not keen on is Noike. For some obvious reasons, I just think they could have made her so much more better. If she hadn't come in then acted like she owned the place, I think people could have liked her! Perhaps if she acted a bit more like Yukine from Saint Knights Tale. She did kind off I guess at first, but then she just swooped in and took the spotlight from all the other girls =O

I may get ripped apart for this, but although I don't DISLIKE anyone on the show, Mihoshi is at the bottom of my list.

I get that she's intended to be a source of comic relief, but I just don't find her that funny. Everyone else on the show makes me laugh more.

Ah, yes, I gotcha. I didn't know it was her cube that freed Washu, I was under the impression she was just stuck on that side, but still free to roam about.

You know, a few months ago when I was a lurker still trying to decide whether to join this forum, I read a post where somebody not only said Ryoko was their favorite character, but proudly proclaimed that they pay no attention to the other characters, and "tune out" whenever they are on. This "my character is the center of all importance in the universe" attitude was so disheartening for me that I almost didn't want to join the forum.

Now, I'll admit that Ryoko is my least favorite of the girls in TM!. But, you know what? I have never ignored her or "tuned her out". That's because, even though I may not like her, I recognize that she is an important part of the TM! story. The same could be said for the rest of the girls. One of the great things about TM! is that each member of the Masaki household, whether it be Ryoko, Sasami, Aeka, Washu, and even Mihoshi, plays an important role in the story, if you are willing to pay attention. Ignore one of them, and you deprive yourself of an important piece of TM!.

I must not come on this board often enough to notice all the fighting that started this thread. Not to mention, I had no idea Crumpet's friend passed away. I've had a similar experience this past two months.

Anyway, a character I dislike? How come no one's said Noike yet? She's not funny, in my opinion, and doesn't come off as very lovable. She's useful around the house, but so is Sasami, and Sasami has a much more likeable personality, in my opinion. I stil maintain that I would have liked Noike better if the third OAV was longer, thus eliminating the need to "force" her on us.

As for the main gang, I'd have to go with Mihoshi. Now, I really don't dislike Mihoshi, but out of all the characters on Tenchi Muyo, she's the character I don't enjoy watching nearly as much. When she has Kiyone, the duo manages to make my sides split probably faster than the Aeka/Ryoko duo, and when she's playing off of Washu she's pretty good, too. However, when Mihoshi is alone, or worse, with Noike, things just aren't as funny, in my opinion.

Now I feel bad because I ripped on Tenchi characters....

I dislike the direction Mihoshi's character has gone in. I miss the semi-competent yet sexy girl from OVA 1, and to a lesser extent OVA 2. In 3, she's as useless (if not morso) than in Tenchi in Tokyo.
