The first one to be "born" was Washu, still in her mental infancy and not fully cognizant of her surroundings when the being that is Setsuna and Tsunami appeared. They are siamese twins, joined back to back at the shoulderblades, and perhaps the head. Setsuna is a violet blue haired male with delicate features in physical form. He is the first to realize self-awareness and then gain empathy. He senses his unconsciousness twin sister's unhappiness; their two minds are fighting for control of this joined being, and it's wreaking havoc on them both. Tokimi is "born". She's just a child and gravitates towards her brother, playing with him but with little memory of the matter, simply a spark of existence that seeks out other existence in the emptiness of space, but nevertheless immensely attached to him. Like two poles of the same magnet, Setsuna attracts her and Tsunami repels. Washu has yet to attain consciousness. In his lonely struggle, Setsuna forsees that Tsunami's gentle spirit stopped vying for domination, yet, it was quickly withering. He felt strong despair from his twin... and it infected himself. Setsuna spiritually detaches himself from his body as a ghost; to see his twin's face for the first time. The contorted pain and anguish he sees twisting her beautiful face tears at his being. His decision is made, that living this life is not worth sacrificing her and he says his goodbyes. He bends down over Tsunami, his ethereal forehead overlapping hers, their power symbols light. She has the 2 circles, he has one. Setsuna pulls back, his sister's face loses the pain grimace and eases into peace. He bends over a sleeping Washu. Her eyes flutter, staring past him and into nothing. It was her first movement. She was finally waking up. Only child Tokimi was left, and her eyes follow him as he advances, seeming to see him even as only a spirit. He falls on his knees, hugs her, and rests their foreheads together. As he leaves, her little hand reaches out as if to keep him from running off. She may have cried out his name, if she had known it. Tokimi looks evilly upon Tsunami. Her mind wasn't fully formed, indeed, it would be a memory in later years she wouldn't be able to fully grasp and retrieve, but the child sensed that she was the reason he left, the one who also was awake and comforted her in this sea of nothing. Setsuna delves in the lower plane, traversing space and time to land in the mortal realm, in an area he thought he would have the greatest chance seeing them again. His soul dives in. Kiyone Masaki jolts and flips over the dinner table. A panicked Noboyuki rushes over. His wife was knocked unconscious, she would be for another week. But the doctor's visit following that would give them joyous news. Pregnant. With twins no less. Setsuna's reckoning was off, Tsunami's body didn't absorb his empty shell. The residual energy was too great to contain without a master and started converting itself into mass, a great wall, to which Tsunami was affixed helplessly. She didn't know the cause, having woke up only after the fact, but Tsunami felt a hole spiritually - like her spiritual tendrils were attached and intertwined deeply with something but then it was coarsely sheared off. Like someone had amputated half her body before she was even born. She remained on the wall, barely having the will to live, let alone wrench herself away. All three sisters felt this chasm they couldn't quite define. Their small realm felt like a still lake, the waters tepid and lifeless. Washu looked pitifully at Tsunami, and then at the uninterested Tokimi. Her mind ticked away and yet couldn't find solutions. Her frustration rose. She pondered lazily that perhaps the mortal plane held a solution to this predicament. She descended down. Later on, it turns out, Washu's experiments with masu were driven Goddess Washu's intention to get a full, perfected body for Tsunami. Counteractor Misaki, has been watching her children from a still higher plane, undetected. As the Choushins' mother, she feels guilty for her failure to deliver Setsuna and Tsunami to the world unscathed. She has Tsunami's spirit descend into the mortal realm, which Tsunami experiences as suddenly falling out of the divine plane and falling into a tree, entrapped and depressed that her that things are relatively the same. However, Misaki descends herself onto the mortal plane, in order to give birth to a more perfect body for Tsunami. Sasami and Tsunami were never the same person, however, they were always destined to merge. Soon, the family will be reunited... |

Even if I accept it's "canon", I'm not obliged to use it. It doesn't tickle my fancy. |

Saying OVA 3 and GXP are canon is like saying Jaws 4 is canon. |

I don't think that's the way, there needs to be some logical way to proceed and not arbitrary. But, like with George Lucas, you can say newer works don't have the same spirit. As to TM!R, you could say it has two co-creators and that canon stopped when the one left, at end of episode 6. I just happen to be an OAV1/2 fan. |

I know I'm getting off topic on this, but I feel it has to be said. As far as Lucas goes, if you're going to use the "all the creators must be involved for it to be canon" arguement, then "The Empire Strikes Back" wouldn't be considered canon because Lucas had very little involvement in it. And "Return of the Jedi" and the prequels wouldn't be considered canon because Gary Kurtz (a man who is just as responsible, if not more so, as Lucas in bringing the first two movies in the original trilogy to life) didn't have any involvement in them. |

Yes fans should have fun. But its one thing to fantasies and another to act as if ones fantasy is reality. Especially just because one didn't like what the author gave us. Here in America, many people hate OVA III and GXP. But in Japan, which is the key demographic for Tenchi Muyo, they love OVA III and GXP. Yet people here in America act as if only their opinions matter on this subject. As ANB said in a preview thread from last year, the Japanese fans would have rioted has Kajishima not included people like Seto and Airi. Yet here in America, there is so much hate for them and others who were introduced. Some like Jibril choose to ignore OVA III and GXP, while others choose to ignore them and all the novels and doujins as cannon. But whatever, I really don't care anymore. I'm just in an extremely foul mood right now. |

Well, OAV3 wasn't the run-away success that OAV1/2 were... that may be up to several thing, like the Tenchi Muyo zeitgeist matching the mood of the 1990s and not the 00s. But can't we have fans that like parts? I don't begrudge you being an OAV3 fan. Like begrugde my OAV1/2-ness:) |

There's nothing wrong with liking parts. The problem is that so many want to act like OVA III, GXP, the novels and doujins aren't cannon. PS - My 1,200 post. But I'm not happy right now, so f!@# it. |
