Ok, Honest question, I get that the Counteracter is supposed to be Misaki from some distant point in the future, and that Tenchi is, for all intents and purposes God Himself, so that in mind, why exactly did Misaki and Tenchi-kamisama kiss? As far as I know, Misaki's never shown to have the hots for Tenchi, was there supposed to be something special about this?

As far as Misaki having the hots for Tenchi, I was told by an expert in Japanese culture that the manner which she put her arms around him when greeting him in episode 13 is something that would be considered and intimate and even romantic gesture to the Japanese.

Yeah, I meant Ziggy. As to your question, I don't see anything special in the kiss as far as romance goes, but given that future-Misaki is supposedly from thousands of years in the future, anything could have happened.

I just don't understand why they never showed present Misaki at all but showed asuza and Funaho...but I never really thought of her being attracted to Tenchi by looking at ep 13, so ep 19 caught me by surprise....

To be honest, I don't see it as anything more than a nice way to end the scene. It could be romance, it could be something else. There's just not enough to go on in my view.

And don't worry about it, it's fun to pick at the little details. When I first saw the scene, I thought maybe it meant that Tenchi-kamisama and Misaki-Countereactor were meant to be analogues for Izanagi & Izanami, given the amount of Shinto references that were in the rest of the show. This was before watching the subbed version of course, and there's literally nothing else to base this on. Still, I liked it.

This is one of those time where you have to have access to all the K-sensei work to understand all of what happening. To be specific in this case, you need the comic he published several year ago than included some unused storyline sketchs. These show the story behind the kissing sceen in Eps. 19..

Several thousand year in the future, when both Azusa amd Funaho have died. Misaki goes mad from grief, and begins to destroy Jurai. The new Emperor (not Tenchi BTW) is force to order her Killed to save the planet. That where/when Z finds her.

Now after Z rescue, Misaki is still crazied, and still willing to destroy everything, including the Tenchi from her past which she does not remember. It only when she sees the Tenchi-Kami-Sami from future, that she recognizes him as someone she knows and she latches on to him for comfort.
