since the board is a little slow I figured id do my part to try n keep it active, I also didnt see this topic yet so forgive me if its been done

pretty much I figured we could all just list the three series (gxp and the movies also if you want) and write what our thoughts on the pros/cons are/ what our favorite and least favorite things are about them..i'll go first

TMR- Fav- I like the character backgrounds the most in this series, I also feel the characters have a bit more depth and are better fleshed out in this series than the other two

Least Fav- OVA3, I like to think the series ends on a cliffhanger after jurai visits/the mihoshi special thing. Everything about the third ova I felt was horrid. Aside from that, its a bit nit picky I spose but I wish there would have been more episodes. I feel like much of the manga could have been turned into episodes.

Universe- Fav- sense of closure. The ending to universe is essentially what I picture the OVA to end as. Pretty much everyone living together and going on (I personally dont care about the whole "who tenchi will chose" or w.e) I also like the length, 26 episodes. Theres a good combination of character development along with the action/comedy.

Least Fav- I read someone mention they felt that part of the personalities of the characters in the ova were used as their main personalities (ayeka being proper and a princess, becomes less so as the ova goes on but seems to be consistant in universe) I agree with this. I also feel as if the ending fight was a bit, underwhelming. to me it was like..the last 12 episodes or so were leading up to this fight and it ends in like..8 minutes with out much going on, was over too quick

Tokyo- Fav- For awhile I found this to be the funniest of the three..but that quickly weared off after the second or third time watching it. That being said I think (up until the kiss) it was consistantly humerous where as the others had the serious episodes (not a bad thing). I also was a fan of Sakuya (now dont shoot, lemme explain) I found HER to be annoying and an overall weak character (along with yugi) but the IDEA of her character..or more so..her ROLE I liked. As said before by another user (dont remember who) she was really the first and only competition for Ryoko and Ayeka (aside from the girl from the 3rd movie..if she counts) I sort of enjoyed a third competitor..also I liked the setting of Tokyo more so than just the Masaki house

Least Fav- I thought the plot was pretty lame, I didnt like the three henchmen of yugi, didnt like yugi, REALLY didnt like the backstories of the characters, didnt like sword and disregard for jurai power..idk, this one was all over the place to me

Tenchi In Love 1- Fav- I liked seeing the cast in a different setting/scenerio, I also liked seeing Achika/Nobyuki (spellings?) relationship pan out a little bit

Least Fav- Kain sucked, he was almost as bland if not more so than Yugi..Action was minimal and the last fight was also underwhelming. I feel like the fight with Kagato (in the ova) was the best fight overall, not so much tenchis part though

Daughter of Darkness- Fav- I thought it was the funniest of the three movies. Its a fairly short movie which I kind of enjoy (like an extended episode almost)

Least Fav- too many things are thrown together..Light Hawk Wings, Kiyone..a crush from Yoshos past? I dunno, seemed like too many ideas thrown together

Tenchi in Love 2- Fav- movie seemed to focus on Ayeka and Ryoko more than others (although tenchi and the main chick were the other half id say)

Least Fav- the main woman (haruna? dont remember her name honestly), least amount of humor..most characters seemed to take back seat and were hardly in it at all, zero action

So..those are my opinion..remember OPINIONS..feel free to agree or disagree but please dont crucify me. what are some of your favorite/least favorite things?

OVA3 did explain how Tenchi's mother had died. There were a few problems with the series. There are only a few highlights. We did learn more about the Kuramitsu family. We have seen Mihoshi's father Nakita. He is the General talking to Minami about giving the family battleship's keys to his grandson Misao. Oddly, Nakita has white hair.

OVA3 could have focus more on Tenchi's family. Tenchi find out that hie has a sister. Her name is Tennyo. He may have an older half sister. Her name is suppposely Miyuki Kuramitsu. Tennyo is a clue that Tenchi has other siblings.

Let's hope that OVA4 is a lot like the first two OVA series.

For Universe, it was a nice spinoff.

I loved KAIN! How could you say he was bland?!

I thought he was bland because there was little to no back story on him, other than just being a dude that hates the galaxy police and jurai

which I suppose for a movie isnt horrible, but I did find the final battle to be very underwhelming

It would have been good to know more about Kain, but like Washu said - everything about him is unknown. Conceivably, Kain could have come from a race of such beings, so it's always possible that some of his(? gender also unknown) cousins could show up to wreak havoc again at some point.

I'm in the planning phases of a fanfic about Kain's origin, but it will only ever be a fanfiction because of the lack of real information o.o

My favourite series is Universe... It's fun, has closure, had Kiyone...

I never cared for Kain. He had a one track mind. All he wanted was to kill people who have the power of Jurai.
Other then that he was a pretty boring villain, who really is not interesting(like Kagato), and he doesn't go though any character development(like Yugi does). He's my least favorite Tenchi villain.

Well, Yugi had a season to develop as a character... Kain had 95minutes =P Not a lot of time for character development in a film more centred on Tenchi gang/his mum. Though I suppose a tad more background on him would have made for a better villain.

I still think that they could have tried a little harder to give Kain a little more of a personality. Look at Yuzuha in Daughter of Darkness, which is only a 60 minute movie. We know more about her then we do Kain.
I think that the people who worked on Tenchi Muyo in Love really didn't care enough to develop Kain as a character, they just wanted him to be a plot device, and nothing more.

Yuzuha had at least one novel to base her on, maybe more if she's referenced later. I forget when it appears in the series. KAIN, on the other hand, was specifically created as a plot device, but there are hints of something greater in him.
