Yay!!!

pocket.ign.com/news/40150.html

Cheaper Games Ahead

A recent reduction in manufacturing costs may mean less expensive Game Boy Advance prices.

November 28, 2001

We may be saying bye-bye to the familiar $39.99 price for third party Game Boy Advance games.
Various sources in the industry have indicated that Nintendo is making an aggressive move to reduce the average retail costs of Game Boy Advance cartridges. Though sales of games have been relatively brisk, the high retail price of third-party GBA games (as high as $40) have discouraged high volume sales for standard Game Boy Advance titles.

According to several development and publisher sources, Nintendo is looking to bring the average price of a Game Boy Advance cartridge down to the Game Boy Color range, prices that rarely went higher than $29.99. To do this, Nintendo has reduced the cost of cartridge manufacturing for game publishers by approximately $2.00 a unit. Since publishers are forced to manufacture games at a number that's in the tens of thousands of units, this $2.00 price reduction will cut the costs significantly and make it more appealing for publishers to produce GBA titles for a cheaper retail price.

The price reduction, according to sources, will not take place until January 1st, so don't go running to the stores to see cheaper games until well into the new year.

Official Nintendo representatives were not available to comment on the price drop as of publish time.

-- Craig Harris

ZL

In the words of Martha Stewart (of whom I am NOT a fan but am blatantly ripping off here): "It's a good thing."

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

It's a good thing indeed. The GBA is an excellent system, and the only down-side was the price of the games.

Since it's unrealistic to use any kind of removeable optical media on a hand-held it's good to see the price of cartridges go down...because that has ALWAYS been the problem with cartridges-the price of production.

^.^ What is Yuje looking at right now? ^.^

Join the Fight! | Why we fight.

You already can on a laptop. ^.^

What we need is a small, cheap, low-power form of memory for the "Next Generation" handhelds. MiniDiscs, I always thought would be perfect they are just the right size if an enclosure was designed properly with them. The only problem is the fact that it would need a mechanical motor to read the disc that would slow things down and make it require more power.

Catridges will continue to rule handhelds. Since "Flash" memory is too expensive and too unreliable, and other ideas have met with failure or are too expensive.

Catridges are fine for now as long as they keep packing more and more memory into 'em.

^.^ What is Yuje looking at right now? ^.^

Join the Fight! | Why we fight.

People carry around CDs all the time. As long as they're in their case CDs are hard to break, you can break the case but it's VERY hard to break a CD.

Just as you touch the energy of every life form you meet, so, too, will their energy strengthen you. yes but you run the risk of scratching them. On the xbox if there is some dust on there it can cause the system not able to read the disk because it has to be perfectly clean. The xbox would prolly have a freakin field day if there was 1 minor scratch in there LoL.

Smart move on Nintendos part. They need to keep the range of cost for there GCN and GBA seperated. $39.99 for a GBA game, or $49.99 for a GameCube title.

By doing this, there GBA/GBA game sales wont suffer once the GCN is doing wonderfully with there 1st party games that are coming out later this year.

//45hu 0//|/|5 j00!
