09/12/2014: My previous attempt at renaming the directory to foil the spambots did not work. I'm trying now to change the login information for the SQL database. There may be a little bit of downtime but it shouldn't take long.
09/11/2014: I've been having problems with spambots preventing legit users from being able to sign up correctly. I've tried changing the directory from bbs to forums. Hopefully that will stop them and I can remove the retrictions stopping real users from signing up. Sorry if some of your bookmarks have become broken. They can be fixed by replacing bbs with forums in the properties.

Not only is this an unprecedented launch for a Nintendo console, if the numbers pan out it actually makes the GameCube launch the most successful introduction of gaming hardware in Europe ever. The previous record-holder, Sony's PlayStation 2, sold about 70,000 units in the same time period.

The real amazing bit of news is that NOE announced at the same time that Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II was the best selling title at launch. This marks the first time a third party title has ever been the best selling game with the introduction of a new console.

Keely Brenner, senior brand manager LucasArts says, "We are delighted with the news, it is a piece of gaming history. Rogue Leader is a superb game, showcased beautifully by the GameCube's graphic capabilities. At the end of the day gamers wanted to play the movie and with this game you can."

Nintendo of Europe has proven a force to be reckoned with over the launches of Game Boy Advance and GameCube, marketing the consoles to an older crowd with its "Gaming 24:7" tagline and parading of women with Nintendo characters painted on them. While definitely not the kind of marketing Japanese and North American gamers were treated with, it definitely seems to have worked so far. Our congratulations go out to Nintendo's Europe branch for pulling off the most successful console launch in Europe to date. And to think that so many people thought that Nintendo was going to be in 3rd place for sure. ^_^

With the future lineup, I feel like Nintendo could regain its crown... ^_^

Sure, 18 million PS2 vs what...5-6 million GCN? ^_^

We'll talk again come Christmas. ^_^

GCN, should have made the DVD player an option when buying the console. I think then consumers would have thought twice to rather which system they would want to own heh.

nevertheless its certianly good news anyway.

you can get a gamecube with a DVD player! it is a lot more expencive but it looks cool, and the DVD player is better quality than the PS2 one, I think you can find them on Ebay ^_^

"Mader than Mad Jack McMad winner of last years Mister Mad competition" - Black Adder
Visit my Final Fantasy Site and My Board ^_^

Doh! Any GCN owner knows that. What I should have said in my last post is that they should have done it at launch in north america.
