09/12/2014: My previous attempt at renaming the directory to foil the spambots did not work. I'm trying now to change the login information for the SQL database. There may be a little bit of downtime but it shouldn't take long.
09/11/2014: I've been having problems with spambots preventing legit users from being able to sign up correctly. I've tried changing the directory from bbs to forums. Hopefully that will stop them and I can remove the retrictions stopping real users from signing up. Sorry if some of your bookmarks have become broken. They can be fixed by replacing bbs with forums in the properties.
I know a lot of people who say emulators are bad and blah blah blah, and I know a lot of people who say they're good, what do you guys think?

*Nods*
Emulators are *sexiness*!

I am Ryoko!...and Onari Pika Yamuga
My theme songs: "I am a Pioneer" and "Autumn of Life"
Hikari to Yami ... Ryouhoutomo onajisa
<marquee>Shunned from the hope of light, Darkness shall reflect my sight, Crying hopeless with spirit's pain, Will I give in and go insane?...either hated or loved is my fate, but if loved...it is too late, all that I inspire is hate. I wish that joy was mine to own, naturally I shy away...from joy and the light of day, Natural is dark that I have known. It cloaks the hurt, it cloaks the pain, all causes give way for mine own gain, what is the color of my despair? A wound in my soul that I cannot bear. I have come to love these things, power...of the dark it springs, a tattered soul much abused, knavery's plain face never seen til used, do you know the color of my fear? When I will not shed a tear. numb and void to all around, like an animal stalks without sound, hate...I am filled with hate, Oh God I wish it would dissipate, and leave me free to feel the wind, and make this darkness end. See the trees, See the moon, see the lake and the loon, Alone...I am lonely, please..please do not judge me, The dark has not won me yet, inside the fight is well met, inside the light...though shadowed still, seeks a way my heart to fill, sadness and despair I fight, seeking to destroy this blight. Soon dark or light my soul will claim, the Dark the Light, for now...the same.</marquee>

Yup, go Emulators! ^_^

"Mader than Mad Jack McMad winner of last years Mister Mad competition" - Black Adder
Visit my Final Fantasy Site and My Board ^_^
PH33R 7H3 M0U53
<:3)~~~~

Emulators are cool when they are doing retro, but if they try and do a new game, that is bad. Some of us think it is better to buy those games! ANd those who don't pay, make it more expensive for the rest of us. But for those classics which are hard to find, or never made it past the boarder, into your homeworld, then, they are cool. Just often a bitch to get to work....

People copy dvds, tape movies on channel 5, and pirate stuff all the time and still. They make tons of money.

Emus don't hurt the gaming industries that much because its all old school games anyways. Besides, theres some games I could never get to play or never could get a copy of the game ever if it wasn't.

If I wanted to make a purchase on ebay for some old SNES games, I wanna test and make sure they are pretty cool games since they are so old.

Fans of video games buy them just to give loyalties and for the game itself. Any gaming industry doesn't have to worry about it.

YES!!! THEY ARE VERY EVIL.

I have SNES9.x, Nesticle, ZSNES, MAME, RockNES, Stella (Atari 2600), and one more which escapes me...also for the 2600.

I agree with KagatoTEG, older games being emulated are not a problem. I mean those things are selling (if they still are) for next to nothing anyway...unless the company decides to bring them out graphically updated and sell them as "CLASSICS." *See the Atari topic somewhere in this section.* Bringing the old games back updated, that works for nostalgia; but that's also what emulators do...keep the old games alive and playable. Ah memories. And also, what about those games (in older systems of course) that you almost wanted to get but instead chose another game...or that certain game that broke, (or you sold, or lost) that you really really liked and can't find anywhere else? Being able to replay them, and finding them out there...that's why emulators are cool.

Why did I say they were very evil? Other than taking up chuncks of your time, I was just being sarcastic. If you're a company who wants to bring their old games back in updated form or you still just want to make money off the royalties then yeah they're evil. If you are SELLING your emulators and ROMS, then of course that's wrong and evil. If, however, you're just an average gamer who wants to relive some old arcade or console memories then I have no problem with them (though of course, the game companies would).

ZL
Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

When I was saying they are sometimes evil, I was solely refering to emulators of real new games, and not the "classics".
I mean, during the regin of the N64, there were some emulators of games like Goldeneye and Zelda64. Those were day. But emulators of games like FF4/5/6 are not bad, even though there are new versions of them, since it is sorta trying to milk it, so really it is the companies being naughty there. Still, I am not against remakes either.

If there was emulators of games like Smash Bros Melee, or Metal Gear Solid2, these I would consider evil(unless it is a decade or two from now or something), as well, some people are trying to acturally buy these games, and the pirate business does acturally account of a percent of the price we have to pay.

Anyone here know about Raine? ^_^

It's an emulator for classic arcade games like Bubble Bobble Symphony and all! ^_^ Very fun! ^_^

The games are small as well! Something around the 5-6 megs only! ^_^

I just love those little dragons! ^_^ It seems Jaleco simply don't make those types of games anymore. ^_^

I wish Sega would bring back some of their old franchise and update them! I bet Space Harrier would be awesome with today's console's power! ^_^

Afterburner was a classic for me as well! ^_^ No simulation, all arcade blasting! ^_^

Talking of MAME,

IS there a Windows version? Or do we always have to boot from DOS?

I once tried it and it just froze my computer... I have WinMe...

Do you know anything about this?

Of COURSE there's a Windows version. The DOS versions are the most stable though...to use them through Windows you should get what's called a "Front-end."

If this site is still around, it was the best for those: http://www.arcade@home.com. can also get emulators there.

ZL
Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

I see! ^_^

But the last time I've heard about MAME, it was a general purpose emulator, therefore not very fast and efficient.

That was maybe 2 years ago.

Is it different now?^_^

Emulators are evil because they are soulless.
---------------------
"Screw this crap, I've had it." - Weezer

The Get Together to Tear it Apart - Go on, give your typing fingers a brand new start

Why not take a trip to "Substitute Tenchi"! - NOW WITH A FULL FAN-SUB OF THE FIRST EPISODE OF TENCHI MUYO GXP!

With your computer's efficiency, I doubt you'll have any problems. M.A.M.E (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) runs over 3,000 games (counting clones and hard to find imports of arcade games), so it's the most inclusive overall (I think). Hey, arcade@home has Raine and Mame (Windows versions) and other stuff...and it indeed is still there! Check it out. And WOW, that X-Arcade joystick looks AWESOME! I'd like one. Actually, a similar (older) joystick, the HOTROD, has long been on my to get (someday) list. ^_^

X-Arcade joystick:
www.arcadeathome.com/gate...arcade.com

Hotrod joystick: www.hanaho.com/products/H...index.html

ZL

Oh, I gave an incorect address in my earlier above post for arcade at home:

www.arcadeathome.com/

That should get you there.

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.
