The company has removed two Nintendo branded titles, Donkey Kong Racing (GameCube) and Donkey Kong Crackers (GBA) from its online game listings. The two titles both use Nintendo licensed characters.

In another move, the company has revamped its "New Games" section, removing the Game Boy Advance and GameCube icons that were previously placed next to the game titles.

Rumors have flourished for months that Rareware has been considering going third party and abandoning Nintendo's exclusive publishing agreement. Reports have also indicated a multi-platform approach may be in the works for the software house.

On a positive note, fans confused about the disappearance of Kameo: Elements of Power from industry trade shows need not worry, Rare's latest update promises that the GameCube title is still on the way. "The team's been locked away," said Rareware's online personality Uncle Tusk, "polishing and tweaking to get it looking as good as possible for the next appearance. You'll see something soon enough." The website still indicates that the title will be released in 2002.

The website also indicates that Star Fox Adventures and Kameo: Elements of Power will both be GameCube exclusives.

The website's latest update offers no information on other console titles the company is working on, despite a lenghty hiring process aiming at raising the company's employee count to 250. At the moment, Rareware is actively seeking network programmers "to develop cutting-edge code for next-generation network opportunities."

Thanks to Daniel Milne for contributing to this report. (byc)

Source: N/A

*It's not unexpected, and it makes perfect sense for Rare. Nintendo is not the number one console maker, and its moves thus far make it clear that Nintendo has conceded that position to SONY. It would be sad if Nintendo dropped out of console development, but the power of SONY and Microsoft may indeed be too great. I guess time will tell. Losing Rare is indeed a blow to Nintendo. Hopefully certain games will remain excluse to them.*

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

yes but nintendo leads the market in gameboy advance so why take those games out? I could see the gamecube because there is 3 consoles but gba is like the only handheld out there today.

Nintendo survived the exodus of Square, so why cant they survive this?

"I'm the greatest, and I can't possibly be beat!- Cassius Clay aka Muhammed Ali"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"- Robert Oppenheimer

I too feel that it is unlikely that rare will leave Nintendo, as I have said time and time before, no one else would allow them the time they need to make such games as they do.

A thoery about these things you speak of. They are pulling our legs. Rare are English, and we do seem to like to lead people astray for a joke or two. So far, all you have shown is that they are suggesting they are leaving Nintendo, but no real actual "Yes we are leaving Nintendo". If you look at that Mario Sunshine thread below, you will see I started taking DMT on a little ride, confusing him. Rare are Intellegent and English, and must have heard the same rumours as us all. I would not be overly surprised if they suddenly announced that they most certainly are not leaving Nintendo, and told everyone those suggestions were a big joke...
If you look at Rare's games, you can't help thinking that they would do something like that...

You would think that news like this would spread around like wild fire but its not even at planetgamecube. This stuff is not very insightful and only confuses people.
