09/12/2014: My previous attempt at renaming the directory to foil the spambots did not work. I'm trying now to change the login information for the SQL database. There may be a little bit of downtime but it shouldn't take long.
09/11/2014: I've been having problems with spambots preventing legit users from being able to sign up correctly. I've tried changing the directory from bbs to forums. Hopefully that will stop them and I can remove the retrictions stopping real users from signing up. Sorry if some of your bookmarks have become broken. They can be fixed by replacing bbs with forums in the properties.
And it comes that time again when Alex dissapears for a week to go play Quake3 in some mystical land. Tomorrow I set forth towards the uncharted land of Texas, to sweat, swim, and play games for a bunch of days with 1000 other people! Hooray for parental consent!

I shall miss you all dearly, as I ship out from the southernmost farms of Videogames and Misc. to adventure into the unknown--MESQUITE, TEXAS.

Byebye~~ *love*

What you travel to play Quake III?

" How many people are proud to be citizens of this beautiful country of ours? Yeah, it's really fun to meet up with people you know online, as well as play Q3 with no lag :)
I really enjoyed myself; however, it was far too short, I think. Three days plus one (half) day, which was basically the closing ceremony and packing up. Oh well--I just swam in the hotel pool in sunny Texas after the last day. :)

I wish I cared enough for FPS's to get Quake III ;.; Unreal Tournament has left me SOULESS.

Nate RFB: Der Wille zur Macht

UT suxx0rz ;P
Doom ]|[ is coming out soon, which looks great, but it's going to be a single player game mostly, so it's not going to have much of an impact on the FPS community, I think. Unreal Tournament 2003 and Quake 4 are going to be the big games, as I don't see Return to Castle Wolfenstein being that popular much longer :P

I've got Unreal Tournie recently, does not run very well at present, so I have not attempted online (I don't want to be at the mercy of Online gamers while my PC is messing up with URT). I've tried Quake 2. I didn't do very well. On Reflection, it might of been an idea to set my right mouse button to "jump", as as a Space bar, it was hard to reach.

what controls do you use? I find using the arrow keys or esdf best for quake1-3 :) I haven't played too much UT, but I'd imagine it to be the same, with esdf or wasd. :) I'm currently using spacebar as jump, but it does feel kind of awkward :P

I reckon the way most of the Quake 2 players were jumping, they had jump set to the right mouse button. I mean, you don't have any secondary fire, right? The Space bar is strangly annoying to reach. Imagin, you are being chased, and you're using the arrow keys. Then, you realise, you need to jump, to make it to your escape route. DANG! It is impossible to bend your little finger to reach the space bar and the ^ key at the same time, well almost. They people I were playing were freaking Jumping beans. It was quite annoying. Another thing which can be annoying, changing weapons.
I have not put it into much practice, but for games like Quake, where the weapons all have single functions, the right mouse button would make an ideal extra button. I'm setting mine to jump, even when there are secondary functions(you don't use them much, and they tend to be the sorts of functions that are akin to snipering, so you can afford to take your hand away from the mouse or arrow keys. But I guess it could be used for switching weapons instead, as that is difficult... Though, I wonder... Would the number keys down the right side work for weapon changing? If my ideas work, and help you to win, please tell me, so I may know to use them myself...

Well, you're just using crap controls ;o

My controls are:

e = forward
s = back
d = left
f = right
r, g, k, w, a, 1 and 2 = weapon binds
mouse 2 = weapon ;o
space = jump
mouse3 == nothing :P

and they were strafe jumping ;) You move much faster when you strafe jump.

Exactly, playing a game isn't typing so you don't have to use your pinkie to hit space...

"Yes, Take it Ota!"
