"According to a Reuters report released today, Nintendo's next-generation GameCube console has amassed a considerable hardware sales lead over Microsoft's Xbox platform since the two systems debuted worldwide. But this could be a short-lived lead if analysts are to be believed.
GameCube has sold through 4.8 million pieces of hardware around the globe compared to 3.8 million Xbox units, cited a study conducted by the Ziff Davis Media Game Group, which polled some 2,000 videogame players.

Interestingly, though, the study also showed that 15 percent of those surveyed wanted to buy an Xbox compared to just nine percent GameCube. Based on those results, the Media Group projected that Xbox will see a total installed base rise to 13.7 million homes globally in 2003 versus 11.2 GameCube owners in the same year."

It's doing pretty badly isn't it!

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."

Edited by: Zethora at: 8/12/02 6:15:56 pm

It was in a xbox magazine in the news of other consoles that ninendo MIGHT be looking at other consoles. They said in the mag that nothing has been said they would produce for the xbox. They only said that nintendo was looking into making games for other consoles like sega has done. And because of the relationship with sony the mag thought that ninendo would make games on xbox before PS2.

So dont take that to heart and think that it is offical. It is only small talk.

There is nothing wrong with Sony. Considering the PS2 is only their 2nd system I think they have done an great job. I have a PS2 and it rocks! Soon I will have a GC and then my world will be perfect. I would never get an XboX though :p

As for who sells the most hardware, the GC and the XBox will never catch up to the PS2 in overall sales.
And when he gets to Heaven, To St. Peter he will tell. Most people I talk to agree that X-Box may not last that many more years. And Nintendo have the definate advantage of their own games. I doubt they would be going multiformat before stopping their consule production. The only reason I would see for them developing for anything other than the GC, would be PC, but that is damn unlikely too. However, if Ninny were to go into Online play, maybe they could make more basic PC versions to make it more accessible, and to make there a greater playing audience. Just an idea. One unlikely to find form, or if it does, not for a long time.

Sony's main advantage is that the PS2 was backwardly compatable. They are also a popular and "hip" company. But they are an entertainment Hardware company. For all their products, they depend on others to make things to work on their products.... Music CDs, Games, Videos, Sony may have labels and stuff, but they don't do much towards them other than a little capital...

And we all know how Analysts are *always* right.

NES-Doomed to failure just like ATARI and COMMODORE.

1981- Apple's "GUI" is doomed to failure because of price and lack of demand. Computer's are professionals not for consumers. GUIs are trendy and will not last.

PlayStation-Will fail because of cost, speed issues, and development costs.

The list goes on and on.

Analysts are crap.

Besides there is a study which says the exact opposite. GameCube sales will pick up in the next year as opposed to XBox sales which will drop.

I suggest you read "How to lie with Statistics" instead of believing a bunch of morons who think they know gaming more then gamers do.

INTEL INSIDE
It's not a marketing gimick, it's a warning label.

Yuj is right, i never listen to analysist because they are like...ALWAYS wrong=( Xbox believe it or not is doing pretty good, they have sold enogh to survive and they have a big line up but most of them suck...whatever happened to microsoft saying they were goign to do Quality Control? All i am seeing is a bunch of @#%$ sport games!

Sony is evil, they are the hardest to write games for. Microsoft tried to make there console somewhat easier to make games for by using a window's os type system. I dont know what Nintendo did but i remember hearing that they were trying to make it easier for dev to make games as well....then you come to sony! They basicly said f*** all devs becauase if they wanna make money they gotta do it our way so we will make it so the console is easy for us to make and make them do a lot of hard programming. I believe you still need to program in assembly language for ps2!

I hate sony with a passion=P
