I don't think parents should be overprotective at all. Protective yes, over protective, no. Certainly as a parent I must teach my kids about obvious dangers, like street traffic or putting their hands on the stove, etc. But most of the time they should be allowed to explore the world around them as they need to because this is how they learn. It's not always easy to determine how far to let a child explore, when dangers are not obvious.<br><br>My parents were pretty liberal about policing my behaviors as a teenager, they were willing to let me learn on my own. For sure I got into plenty of trouble, but I guess I was never stupid enough to put my life at risk. I did waste a few years doing a lot of drinking, partying, the whole business, but I straightened out eventually. So I have to believe my own kids will do the same, and I'm not obsessed with them making mistakes. They will, there's no way to avoid that and I will do everything I can to be there for them when that happens for love and support. I resolved problems with my parents, and i must admit that i think problems are caused when the two don't establish an effective communication channel. Now after that big fight, i learned that parents wanted to do whats best for you, and thats not a bad thing. It is just the way that neither one of us was willing to back off from our point of view, so conflict results. It's good to hear that everything seems to have worked out. You also seem to see the value of communication, which is really good. I know that most people use avatars of a favorite character, or celebrity in your case Jiggly, so that shouldn't make a difference ...
