Yes, I saw that this morning on TV, such an unexpected event. The Challenger explosion 17 years ago shocked the world. No one dreamed that it could ever happen again, but it did. A tragic loss today, and we must always remember those that gave their lives for the advancement of the human race.<br><br>Just another thought, the space shuttle vehicles by now are becoming quite aged ~20 years service. This is indeed tragic. I remember the Challenger accident very well. Today's event is another huge loss, not only for America, but for Israel (who had I believe their first ever citizen to ever travel into space), and also India, since one of the crew was the first of Indian heritage to ever go into space as well. I remember the Challeger incident. I had just been given a sweat shirt with the Challenger on the front. Then like two weeks later the darn thing blew up. I never wore that thing again. People kept on sayin' it was bad to wear it. A dis to the seven astronauts families. My mom got mad because I wouldn't wear it and it was gift from her parents. My grandma and grandpa didn't seem to care. :/ But peir pressure is a bitch.<br>Any way, I wasn't to shocked. S$#@ happens in racing. You get stunned for a moment, pary for servivores and move on. This is S$#@ happening in areonuatics, on a grand scale. It happened once 17 years ago, it could happen again. I hope it wasn't the Palestinions that did it, or take claim for it. I read the Yahoo news and some person said they saw two streaks on the side of it and just assumed they were tracer rockets.<br>I figure it was probably a fuel leak lit up on re-entry. If the shuttle is like a plane, the fuel cells are in the wings. If the bladders in the wings leaked or the T-fitting between the two wings leaked and sprayed out side the fusalodge (*sp?), then it could have ignited off those hot tiles on re-entry. I mean how many times has NASA scrubbed launches for fuel leaks or cracks detected at the last minute? How many runs did this last shuttle have? I know it's expensive to make a new shuttle very offten. But maybe they should. I mean topfuel dragsters scrap their chassis or sell them off at the end of the season or at the most two seasons. I imagine the G-loads experienced are a little higher in space travel vehicles. <p></p><i></i> |
