Ohio School Suspends 1st-Grader For Having Plastic Knife

Hm... While I do think that suspension is a bit excessive, lets not forget he did break the rules. And I doubt that the school would do such a thing as concider expulsion unless the boy adimently refused to not take the knife. For all we know he threw a char at the teacher when they told him he couldn't have the plastic knife...-.-; I'm doubtful that the case will hold water in court, and even if it did, it's not like schools have any money to give em... Ohio School Suspends 1st-Grader For Having Plastic Knife Boy Could Even Face Expulsion A school board near Youngstown, Ohio, is debating whether a 6-year-old should be suspended from school for taking a plastic knife from his school cafeteria. Kevin Long was suspended for doing just that. And, he could even face expulsion, WLWT Eyewitness News 5 reported Friday. Struthers Elementary School supplies the plastic knives for students to use at lunchtime. He put the butter knife in his backpack because he wanted to take it home. That reportedly violates the school's zero-tolerance policy. Kevin's parents have hired a lawyer, according to WLWT. they hafto be joking right.?? they cant really mean they will do that... a plastic knife..?? of all things..??? this is one point wear usa is too strickt... a plastic kife... what can he do..? poke his eyes out in the worst case.... they schold see what is in my school... there is no one that dont have some kind of weapon.... even the geks that some ppl call them have knifes.... I myslef carrys around with two trowing kifes only too protekt myself.... the role in my school is if you dont pack some kind of weapon you will get hurt... then they will mug you and kick your ass badly but if you carry somthing around they will leav you alone and you will be okay... I am not happy or praod of it but I have too it is the only way too be safe.... personaly I think it suck really much...

That reminds me of a senior from a local high school who was expelled a few weeks before graduation because of a butterknife that was found in the back of his truck last year. The thing was, he didn't know that it was there. The previous weekend he used his truck to help his grandmother move, and the knife fell out of box of silverware. Really sad, since he couldn't graduate. Yes, banning plastic knives definitely goes beyond the realm of sensibility and creates more problems than it solves. That poor kid's suspension is proof of that. As everyone has pointed out, virtually any object can be used as a weapon.
