| Post subject: | Media Player Problem |
I have a media player problem and I was wondering if any of you could help me with it. O.K I have this .avi file that I want to play, media player is supposed to play this type of file format. However, it has to download a codec from windows to do it. However, ever time it automaticly tries to download it a error message comes up and says it was unable to download codec!<br><br>Now I have tried everything it says to do on the windows help page and nothing seems to work:<br><br>Upgrading Explorer<br>Lowering Security to download the codec<br>Enter code in the [diver32] section<br>Retry the download<br><br>Nothing seems to be working for me and I am getting really frustrated with it. <br><br>Help me please! What do I need to do? Is there another media player that works especially well with .avi files or how am I supposed to get the right codec on my computer?<br><br>I am not the biggest computer expert in the world. So any help would be appreciated. <br> <p></p><i></i> |

Try to go to DIVX.com and download one of their codec...<br><br>Lastly, it might simply that you're using a firewall and you forgot to give access to the new MP. <p></p><i></i> |

The file might be corrupted too. Well, I got to the point where I can "view" the .avi file, but I get no sound. Which means 99% of the time that I need the right codec. I would like to get the right codec, but mircosoft won't let me download it instead I keep getting the error message -Unable to download an appropriate decompressor. (Error=80040200)-<br><br>Now I have tried everything they recommend at there site to be able to download the appropriate decompressor, but nothing they say works. <br><br>The file is fine I have downloaded similar avi files, but I still have the same sound problem with them to! I get video, but no sound. <br><br>and the Divx player is pretty sweet (I downloaded it), but I can't get any sound with that player either. So in less I get this codec I can't get sound with my video. It sure would be nice to know what codec I actually needed, but of course I don't know.<br><br>I think I will call microsoft customer service tommorrow. <br><br>Anyways thanks for the help. <br> <p></p><i></i> |

What sound card do you have? It might be about some incompatible card/driver...<br><br>Also, try to find the error type on the net! Lots of posters usually post about those and you might find the solution to your problem as well! <p></p><i></i> |

I just thought I would post that my problem is fixed. Thanks everybody for there advice. I tried, I think every codec package there is on the net. <br><br>What worked for me was upgrading windows media player, to media player 9. To my surprise when I saw the upgrades for media player it had a codec. Of course I couldn't just download that codec, but I had totally upgrade my media player. When I then played my avi file it had sound and I was very happy.....The End <p></p><i></i> |
