Although I agree on the Kurds sentiment, I also think it would be hazardous to allow such an event because of the military's ability to rise back into power and influence should the Turkish people allow them (they may use this as an excuse to force themselves into power in either case though).

Well, I heard that one of our (as in the U.S. and its allied countries) primary targets is Kirkuk, especially because that is a Kurdish "homeland" of some sort...but whether or not we can get to it "in time" (and whatever that may imply) is still to be seen.

I'm a bit concerned about Turkey's military play...particularly because they appear to have done it while PURPOSEFULLY refusing staging areas for allied forces in their country-this has given them a large Iraqi desert's worth of space between their forces and our own hopefully diverting their northern campaign. Sure, we have Turkish airspace still, but that doesn't matter-because what matters here is HOLDING TERRITORY, and Turkey knows that.

All in all, it's a bit unsettling.
_____________
"If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything."

-Mark Twain
Edited by: AlphaConqerer at: 3/23/03 3:27:14 pm
