Yeah, it was on our state quarter. And it's been around for so long that it's on practically everything New Hampshire-made (the tokens, brochures, license plates, souvenirs). So its image will definitely remain. They have it on the highway signs in NH too, it's like a state symbol of sorts for NH. Pretty weird I thought - something that's been up there since the end of the ice age, just now decides to fall down. I miss Vulcan.<br><br>Created for a long-ago Worlds Fair, the Iron Man (for the past several decades) overlooked the city of Birmingham, Alabama.<br>Rain and iron don't mix very well, and some friend had the notion of filling the giant hollow statue with concrete for stabilization. Concrete and Iron expand and contract at different rates.<br>Instead of waiting for a major catastrophe, the statue was safely dismounted from it's high pedestal; hopefully for some genuine renovation.<br> <p></p><i></i>

I don't know why we're called the "Granite State" personally...we don't have nearly as much Granite as some other states do (they certainly don't "harvest" it from here very much).<br><br>I think they should build a memorial...a statue maybe with the image embroded as detailed as possible on it, and set it down at the lookout spot. Near Atlanta, Ga is a huge mass of granite called Stone Mountain. The three faces of the man-carved Confederate Memorial (President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E.
