I have XP (home version) on mine and love it, but of course my old computer has windows 95 on it, so it is a good thing in my castle. ^_^
"Perfect innocence is sometimes more suspicious than darkness"

Hey, what's wrong with XP Pro? ... ??? The only thing bad about XP pro is that it is reasource demamnding on your PC, it has no RAM Cap like 95, 98, ME, and XP Home.

95 caps at 64MBs that the os uses
98 caps at 128
ME caps at 256
and XP Home caps a 4GBs, fairly large amount, haven't seen a MoBo that has 4GB support.

2k and XP pro have no cap, the OS allocates all memory

The only thing you need to worry about is how much RAM you have. you need at least 256 for XP to have it run good, don't go with the minimum it requires of 128. In any case, it is always a good idea to have 512MBs or a Gigabyte. The more RAM you have, the less the Hard Drive has to be used as a RAM suppliment for games and profesional graphics software, such as Coral or AutoCAD, but mostly games in our case. For neelick he likely uses Coral or another professional graphics software, as well as using his PC as the server for this beloved website, assuming he is paying for a T1 line and not using a free server such as Tripod, R0ackspace, or Geocity.

Edit error correction, Windows XP Home has a 4GB cap not 1.
Sry bout dat, got in to much of a hurry typing this out when I origanilly posted it.

Edited by: JadenStriker2ndGen at: 5/22/03 10:02:55 am

XP pro is excellent IMO, not sure about home edition though (never used it). I like it way more than 98 even if it does stretch my computer's resources ^_^

~ Links ~
[ My Final Fantasy Site | My Board | Tenchi Muyo! I wish I allocated less space to WinXP on my harddrive :( I want to keep my mp3 collection growing, but it's stopped by the fact that I halved my drive, 50% going to WinXP, 50% going to Linux.
And I have practically nothing on my WinXP section, but it takes up almost everything.

torneherren speiles i ødelagt liv mens
sorgengler regner fra
oven til kosmos’ endeløse tidsrom skjenker vi
den siste død

The only complaint I've ever had about XP has been it's shitty performance with games, otherwise it's been great.^^

Midnight Lagoon
Henheart's Universe

Anime Community

How much RAM do you have? RAM playes the most importain role in all software, ESPECAILY GAMES! I would play a game with out 512MBs of any type of RAM.

Yes, I have XP and 512 MB RAM on the main family computer, and I have no complaints with games...yet.

However, I still use Win98 on my room computer. I must say that XP has one major advantage right off the bat...and that is right when you start it up. Win98 takes a very long time. WinXP is fast.

ZL

I do feel for you though CY. O.O 512 gigs?? You mean megs, right ZL?

Mine only has 256MB, but it's 1½ years old now and originally came with ME and I upgraded it. Oops, yes, I meant Megs.

My Win98 computer only has 128 Megs of RAM on it. That was a lot at the time, but as noted above, that can't run XP smoothly.

ZL

Come to think of it, I can't run a lot of the newer games on this computer either. If you have a budget to worry about I would get the 256MBs, but the more RAM you general the faster your PC. I had an old POS E-Machines with 433MHz but 512MBs RAM PC133, and I kicked ass on multiplayer games over then internet against people with 1GHz or better PCs using DDR RAM simply because of having more RAM.
