| Post subject: | Adam and Joe Go Tokyo! |
Last night, the first episode of 'Adam and Joe Go Tokyo' was shown on BBC3. It's possibly the best show to be launched since Saiko Exciting.

It's basically a magazine show, focussing on the quirky nature of Japanese culture, presented by Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish (the writers and stars of probably the greatest comedy sketch show ever, Channel 4's 'The Adam and Joe Show'). It features reports, reviews, interviews, experiments and live Japanese bands - all presented in Adam and Joe's unique style.

On last night's show, A and J investigated being "big in Japan", by wearing shades, having a guy talk to them with a microphone and camera, and watching the wild crowd of screaming adoring fans flock around them.

They tried to figure out cosplay, by going to a cosplay competition dressed as Harry Potter characters and asking cosplayers to explain the bizarroness ("So... why do you come to these things dressed up as weird cartoon characters?" "To win" "Win what? What do you achieve by doing this?" "Uh... Honour." ... "Surely there are easier ways of getting honour..."). They actually entered the competition, were mocked by the judges, the crowd didn't know what to think about them, and were beaten by "someone of indeterminate gender wearing a skimpy air hostess uniform..." - though they did win a special prize ("A plastic bag with a couple of leaflets in it...") for 'best overseas entry'.

They reviewed some of the number one toys in Japan, giving Adam plenty of oportunities to mock Joe's liking of very peculiar childrens toys.

They interviewed the man with the world record for having the most patenets - the guy who invented the floppy disk as a student (I forget his name). "So why is it that you are Joe?" "uh..." "It is because you are Japanese-Orientated English gentleman." "Wow, you've been here 5 minutes and already you've invented my name!" They took tips from him on how to make Adam smarter... very strange.

They had some J-Rock band playing live, but I forget their name.

Overall, it was just as good as their old show. I can't wait for the next part of this 8-part series.

"Wow, I can't believe we're in the London Docklands!"

"Actually Adam, we're in Tokyo."

...

"WOW!"
---------------------
PEACE AND CAKE!

"Who are these skinny European assholes with their anti-war T-shirts singing about S&M?" - Sune Rose Wagner, of The Raveonettes, on American reaction to their early gigs
|
