I got the book from England (british version) two days ago and am reading it while costuming. O_o It is good so far. <br><br>And she isn't supposed to be writing this book for adults, It's on the same level as Nancy Drew (which I LOVED as a child, thankyouverymuch.) It has a good plot, it is interesting, always moving, and exciting. <br><br>And hello? Have you even HEARD of mythology classes? World religion classes? Religion majors? History majors? Hell yes you can research mythology. D&D is not research. It's ok not to like the book. But dude, don't go ripping on something just because you want to hate all things popular. I actually did a Harry Potter/Dark Is Rising crossover and had some dipshit leave a review that started with the sentence "I haven't actually read your story but..." And then proceed to tell me that it sucked because Harry Potter sucked and The Dark is Rising sucked, and they're all just ripping off Tolkien or some @#%$ and bull story like that. Obviously if they think that either Harry Potter or The Dark is Rising have anything in common at all (besides the word magic) then they obviously haven't bothered to read either book. Much less saying they were stolen from Lord of the Rings. OH! I finished the book a few days ago. ^^ I liked it, but I still think the fourth one is the best.<br><br>*SPOILERS*<br><br><br>I felt really *badness* for Snape when Harry saw his worst memory. James is an @#%$. x.X I can't blame Snape for acting so rude to Harry, even if it is misdirected anger... ^^;; And Umbridge really did get what she deserved. I think she could've had worse happen to her, though. -.- Well, I guess it's another long wait for the next book now. ;.;<br><br>*END SPOILERS*<br><br>And MR, have you even read all of the books? I don't really care if you don't like them, but I don't see where you get off with saying she has no talent. It feels alot longer than three years since the last one came out. I can't believe I'm bothering to respond to this one again (but since you called me out by name...). I read the first three books in the series, which I think makes me more than qualified to form an opinion. I also have a Master's degree in English, so I'd like to think I'm pretty well-read in general. I don't hate all things popular, just all things brainlessly consumed by the sheeple of the general populace. The reason HP is so popular is because of the marketing juggernaut behind it. Not because it's that much better than any other children's books on the market. The literary world is desperately trying to become more like the other arts, where you have "stars" for people to look at & admire. Well, I'm glad to see you at least read them. I enjoy reading Harry Potter for the content. I like the way it's written. I just hate all the other merchandise that it gets for being so darn popular. But Im gonna try to get the 5th book. I enjoyed 1-4. So Im sure Im gonna enjoy the 5th one. Ahh yes, for all the good an english degree does. I have a friend with an english degree who thinks Weiss Kreuz has a good plot. What about her writing is poor? She doesn't write terribly, her book isn't the BEST out there obviously, but for children's books they are pretty damn good. Everything is marketed now. Books have been highly marketed for ages. It's nothing new. Not only this but I've found her writing style is improving as she continues the books almost as though she's graduating her readers from one book to the next. I like the classics just as much as the next. But I also enjoy a book to read now and then that is just plain fun. And Harry Potter is that.
