Think of it this way: What kind of people are wealthy enough to spend 40K to send their kids to TB? Probably people whose children have been raised by nannies and au pairs anyway. These people have no interest in raising kids, it just completes the "American dream". So it's easy to ship them off to some psycho camp.

well me, being a somewhat average joe-blow american, i dont blame my problems on someone else, not unless they did it. and nobody i know can afford to send their children there. It's not like they would anyway.but another factor has to go in about parents acting the same way when they were teens. assuming that a 49 year old father has a 16 year old daughter, and she wants to go see some concert, but he doesnt want her to go. times change and yet still stay the same. when he was 17 woodstock was in full swing. he probably wants to go badly. if he wants to go badly enough, he would go without his parent's consent. and if his parents found out, they would be furious. same thing applies with the 16 year old girl. so does it give her father the right to send her to some correctional facility in jamaica? just because she wanted to go to a concert?

im playing nagi

in Tenchi Muyo Suvivor 4!!!

<img src="http://ezb.flamingtext.com/ezb/2002/12/06/flamingtext_com_1039220398_31717.gif" style="border:0;"alt="Image by FlamingText.com"/>
Read PyromaniaC

go to Chibi Yosho's Peepin' Club!

ISC's Quote Of the Month!!!

Sword chucks Yo!

Case of people having more money than brains. Sheesh Im 18 and I was taught respect but my mom also goes by I will give you enough rope to hang yourself with. I prefer to swing from that rope! A parent is someone who takes care of there kids. They are involved, they know whats going on. They don't blame society they disipline there kids correctly and do not make then whiny morons. Someome may give the kid everything, but when you do not get trust from the parent. Abusing teenagers into mindless slaves isn't a good thing. I would throw quite a fit if someone came in my room at 4 am trying to take me away (they would be in for a suprise I have quite the selection of weaponry within arms length). Kids today like this are not taught to stand up for themselfs. I hung out with the "bad crowd" when I was younger. My mothers misconsecptions was cause there older sibings were nasty my friends would be too. Was I hauled away to a camp no. I ate lunch at school with a guy who has a pretty long list of offenses(2 assults 2 drug related kicked out of a milltary school). He was cool to me though and we just Bsed about normal @#%$ day in and day out for 2 years. Most people consider him "bad" dude was okay by me. But when my mom got called cause he was accused of somthing and I stood up with him as a witness and said hey we were having lunch he wasn't smoking weed in the bathroom. Dude had made mistakes but did change. His image was bad but I was rewarded by my mom for knowing forgiveness and by not judging a someome because of what was said. Would my mom send me away no! She would slap my face and kick me from pillar to post and find out why I did it.
I have hung out with some people who most wouldnt go near.

Sorry for the long rant.
When you don't stand up is when you can be taken in my crap like this. I think the parents rights should be stripped if they do this.

School cannot teach you everything you have to learn life on its own. One of my teachers who I believe is a great man said "The people who are the most book smart are the stupidist people in the real world."
You may be rich and powerful but your a sucker in the end. That is the TRUTH!

Ps: I guess those places with no windows run MAC's *runs before food is thrown*

Anything said by me does not reflect the views of me or myself.
My blog filled with Bloggy goodness

Edited by: stunningsteve316 at: 7/18/03 11:44 pm

This thing is another example of bad parents passing on the responsibility of raising a child to someone else. People today are such idiots. Everyone should read the book "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. It predicts a society that obsesses over useless things. It is the best portrait of contemporary society.

"I'm the greatest, and I can't possibly be beat!- Cassius Clay aka Muhammed Ali

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"- Robert Oppenheimer

A little communication link would certainly help things over with kids and their parents. Nowadays, kids and parents both speak English, but most of the time they're not speaking the same language. That's one of the main problems when dealing with certain problems between parents and their children.

Its as I have always said "People in groups are inheritently stupid". The quality society has gone down so far in the past half-century.

"I'm the greatest, and I can't possibly be beat!- Cassius Clay aka Muhammed Ali

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"- Robert Oppenheimer

Well, I'm the parent of a kid that has "issues"....

It started with a lot of lying, increasing disobedience, cutting school (to the point that she is 16 now and in 9th grade), pot, alcohol, now she's on probation for B&E and weapons charges.....

What did we do as parents? Therapy, psycologists, in patient programs (4 times) short term detox, long term detox, partial hospitalization, oh and FIGHT THE GOD *#&^ SYSTEM which seems to be reluctant as hell to take any action.

She even tried to poison me once for instituting a curfew.

Right now she's run away (I dunno, 11th, 12th time) and is not attending the rehab program she's in. Who knows where she is.

At this point I've gotten to the point where I want to throw her out, but I can't.... No... I've got to be responsible for her and her actions for 2 more years, even though I have NO recourse for controlling her actions and she is unwilling to work with the family.

We've tried do it or else, we've tried lets all work togeather as adults, makes no difference.

I've tried to talk to her, hear her side, and I get a long story and it seems real and we come to terms and I find out it was all one big scam a week later.

If I had 40K, she'd be gone, simple as that.

Why? Because at this rate, with her life style, she's going to go though hell one way or the other. If she does it now and hits "bottom" she may have a chance to do somthing with her life. Left to her own devices she'll probably hit bottom around 30 or so, and IF she survives she'll clean up her act and have nothing to do but be miserable for the next 30 to 60 years.

This is not guess work, there are plenty of addicts I have known, and are in my family, and it's always the same story. Until something ground them into a fine powder they would not seek help, not *really*, and once they were completely broken it was only support of a program that rebuilt them that let them have some sort of a life.

The later that happens, the more dismal the life they get.

That what this Tranquilty Bay program is out to do, break your self will (addiction is defined as "self will run riot" in the rooms) and once broken, you can be reinvented as someone who can function in society.

Understand tho, that in my mind someone needs to be as bad as I described above before such drastic measures are taken.

JoyCrushers Menagerie - The Collected Works of Yorokobi Assaiki

- Winner of "Superior Fic" at Jurian Towers -

You do have recourse. You could sign papers that would make her a ward of the state & they'll lock her up in a mental institution until she's 18 (or 21 depending). At least that's how it is in Illinois.
If what you're saying is true (sounds like it), I'd say she has a serious mental health problem. That would make her one of the few teens that SHOULD be institutionalized for their own good. It's terrible to hear stories like that, because I'm sure you feel there should be something you could do. Unfortunately in circumstances like that, there really isn't.

We've tried, they won't do it. The only ting they've done is kept her a few weeks, said that she wasn't a danger to herself or others (because she said so) and turned her loose.

In MD at least, it seems that if they aren't holding a knife to your throat or their own, AND actually drawing blood, they won't do a thing.

Today she is still out on the streets, the cops basically ignore us for so many calls about her. Oh they take the info, and write up the papers, but you get that look from them like "yeah yeah, whatever"

Oh and today we discovered that $80 we had tucked away for a loan payment is gone....

JoyCrushers Menagerie - The Collected Works of Yorokobi Assaiki

- Winner of "Superior Fic" at Jurian Towers -

I'll bet MD doesn't do it because the state can't afford it. It's getting that way here in IL too. They're cutting all the social services down to the bone.
