No, not with whips and leather...er...sorry that's something else...

I meant mental/self-discipline. I've personally struggled with this all my life. Staying motivated and focused has always been tough for me, since I tend to either want to run off in a thousand directions at once, or I seek instant gratification instead of patiently waiting and working toward things. How do you stay/acquire discipline in your own lives? Any tips for those of us who are well...discipline challenged?

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).

Sorry, can't help you with this one. I'm one of the most easily distracted people in the universe.

I recently got my nose into the Bible, and by the looks of it alot of morals today came from this certain collection of books. You could go by God's laws...That always worked before.

A little red robin in a cage puts all of Heaven in a rage.

Well, if you want self-discipline, try taking up a sport that requires you to make an effort. Or maybe a hobbie that you would like to try.
But the main thing is to apply a positive attitude to develop self-discipline when doing something. If you enjoy what you are doing, then distractions are less likely to occur.

God's dead? Impossible. I visited him yesterday, and we had a lovely conversation about cats and dogs. We had tea, and briskets, and such. The food was very heavenly.

edit: Spell check

A little red robin in a cage puts all of Heaven in a rage.

Edited by: Cerebrate Araq at: 7/26/03 12:45 pm

Speaking of discipline STAY ON TOPIC!!!!!

I don't know if this would help... (see my incomplete fic as an example of how I'm NOT one to advise) but in real life, I make lists. No matter how mundane I make a things I have to do list. If it's a long term plan or project I make an outline of what I expect to get accomplished each day.

I'm not sure if it's the list it's self or the act of writing it down, but it helps me stay focused.

JoyCrushers Menagerie - The Collected Works of Yorokobi Assaiki

- Winner of "Superior Fic" at Jurian Towers -

How the heck could you rape someone in 3rd grade if you haven't even started puberty? A guy's penis would pretty much be pointless unless you pissed.

Edited by: Fwingbon Ali at: 7/27/03 1:47 pm
