09/12/2014: My previous attempt at renaming the directory to foil the spambots did not work. I'm trying now to change the login information for the SQL database. There may be a little bit of downtime but it shouldn't take long.
09/11/2014: I've been having problems with spambots preventing legit users from being able to sign up correctly. I've tried changing the directory from bbs to forums. Hopefully that will stop them and I can remove the retrictions stopping real users from signing up. Sorry if some of your bookmarks have become broken. They can be fixed by replacing bbs with forums in the properties.

Hello, you may have, well in fact I doubt you did but anyway, noticed I've not been around much the past week. My family PC has been suffering from that Bloody Blaster Worm thing for the past week see. Now I hear it is meant to make you PC reset constantly, yes? Well it never did that... It just made a few web pages appear totally blank, including Hotmail, so none of us could check our mail; made cut and paste not work; made the contents of the Recyle bin and control panel appear in the information strip rather than the main body of the windows explorer; and various other stuff... One thing that wouldn't work was the part of our virus check that updated the virus database, so we couldn't find any virus using it. Eventually we found out if we reset the PC in debugging mode, it stopped the problems... for a full five minutes, maybe less. However this proved enough time to download the new virus database, and we indentified the virus and infected file, but it couldn't move it to it's virus vault. So I found it, and deleted it, which turned out to be a bit rash, as apparently this makes the thing worse, till you use the Microsoft security update. For which I needed to download another patch for Windows 2000.
Needless to say, I do not like the people behind said virus, even if it didn't work the way it was meant to...

So I would like to find them, beat them to a pulp using a golf club, run over their shins in a heavy car, and send 1500 volts coursing through them.

Anyone else catch it, and more than a little peved by it?
If you are still suffering, then Go Here.
What would you like to do to these people?
I have Returned from the Darkness and I am now RED Kagato TEG! But a Red Kagato doesn't make much sense, so I'll be Arucard TKAV instead...

"I was doing a Spanish Chineseman speaking French"-My Brother.<img src="http://praiseyoudotcom.homestead.com/files/Shad-DT.JPG" style="height:170;width:300;"alt="Shadow Mask.. I also was infected by the blaster worm (WinXP). I really wanted to send the people who made it to the seventh layer of hell (or someplace like that, I haven't actually read Dante's Inferno...let's just say somewhere really really really unpleasant). :P

Thanks to some help I received from Koko, the blaster was eliminated from my computer quite easily. It's weird that it didn't make your computer restart Kagato. That's generally what it's suppossed to do, and that was the case with my computer...it would run for awhile, then an error message would come up saying the system needed to shutdown, and then my computer would restart itself. Anyway, the key is to download the Microsoft patch. Once that was done, there was no problem. Also, I use Norton Anti-virus (Symantec), which, after I updated it, caught and removed the blaster worm. Additionally, Symantec has a more thorough blaster worm removal tool that's downloadable from their site (I'm not sure if it's available only to Norton-antivirus users), which scans your whole system and eliminates all trace of the blast worm. Happily, my system is now worm free, and luckily with a minimum of effort and no real damage done.

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).

That sounds like something that would drive me nuts. :P I'm glad I never upgraded from WinME. Even though it creates its own inner viruses and bugs to harrass me with... XD "Cannot find disk drive" my butt!
Anyway, it seems like since it came out there have been huge glitches with WinXP. I mean, there's even an emoticon in its name to help you understand exactly how it'll make you feel! Hahaha, no, but it *does* have some nice features. Hopefully Microsoft can build on it and fix the flaws for its next version. I have a friend with WinXP, though, who is constantly fighting it out with a virus of some kind. It's almost as if Windows just sits there sucking them in like some weird aquatic animal.
Eh... and I don't understand what makes people want to hack or infect other people's computers, really. Just an odd mentality to have, I suppose. What good does causing someone they don't even know a whole bunch of grief do for them? It's kind of sick, actually. Although I think it's awesome if someone knows enough about computers and how they work to do these things, they ought to use their powers for good and not evil. XD Yes.

That's because it doesn't affect '98. I checked Microsoft's site right away just to make sure. Honestly, things like this worm crap are one of the reasons I've never updated.

Are you implying that 98 is more stable than XP?

blut krieg sieg

We tend to only update when we get a new PC, i.e., when it is provided with said new PC.... Or someone gives us a copy of the update for free....
__________________
I have Returned from the Darkness and I am now RED Kagato TEG! Actually, Windows XP has been fine for me...up until the blaster worm.

I use both Win98 and XP.
