Hypothetical Question...Ultimate Knowledge vs. Mortality

If you were given the choice of having all the knowledge of the Universe (you can understand everything there is to know about everything), but in exchange, you have to jump off a cliff immediately afterwards, would you take that choice and die, or would you walk away? edit: *disclaimer* This is a simple question designed to generate discussion. It does not relate to a discussion of suicide nor is it in any way meant to connect with any other matters in anyone's life. It's a risk you'd have to take, if you had ultimate knowledge you may know a way to save your self from dieing from the fall, or you may know what life is like after death. The down side is that there may not be a way to save your self and there may not be any life after death. Ultimate Knowledge would take the fun and challenge out of life. If you knew everything and managed to save yourself from the jump, likely to find out how to control energy and us it to fly, every thing would be upserdly easy.

I had a feeling I should have tightened up the question. You have no choice about the mortality part. You must jump and die, despite gaining the ultimate knowledge for that brief time. Now, that knowledge might give you some insight to other possibilities beyond death, but either way, you have to die to gain it. You can't do that silly. If you knew everything you could easilly jump off a really small cliff. Also if you understood EVERYTHING wouldnt you be able to control gravity? Why are you trying to change the parameters??? Ok, really really high cliff. Plus gaining the knowledge does not give you psychic or telekinetic abilities. >.< Sigh... You get the knowledge, but if you want it you pay for it with your life. Period. No, even after I did die, I would know everything so then I would know how to reserect myself and would end up doing it (assuming no other force chooses to stop me), and life would still be upserdly easy. Plus it is suicide, and the likely hood of knowing every thing is way more likely to come at a bigger price then just expiring.

It'd be a gamble, what if there is nothingness after death? What if there is no way to go back? I'm not sure what option I would pick, maybe the ultimate knowledge, maybe not. We all have to die sometime, and knowing all for so long you will know all about death, and life so you would know how to come back to life (if there is something after death, that is). What if you forget everything when you come back to life? I think ZL is trying to say that with the knowledge comes death, no way out, or resurrecting, no flying away, just blam, you know everything then your gone.... I'd definitely walk away. What's the point of gaining ultimate knowledge if you can't use it? It takes the challenge out of everything, and you don't actually work hard to gain the knowledge. Yes! Linden and GR are answering as I thought people would. I do like it when topics take on a life of their own though, so I'm not displeased that others are expanding the topic. ^_^ What I might have written to make things more concrete is something like this: You gain ultimate knowledge AS YOU JUMP off. While falling you get more and more, but you only get everything right as you go "splat" with no time to think about how to get out of your current life ending situation. There is no going back on your choice. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif ALT=":p"> What would I do? For me, it could two ways. One: I wouldn't take it, I don't want to die just like that, espeically if I'm young. Two:I'd take it and die after many many years of living, but I'd rather die by a heartattack then splatter on the ground. So #2 still needs thought.

Fine, I'll answer properly... I wouldn't take it for two reasons, I would feel like I cheated and I would die. My greatest fear isn't death, it's after death, what is it? Heaven? Hell? Nothingness? I would just walk. I want to live a long life, as long as I can think, move, see, hear and talk. See and think are the most important... I would never jeopardize a long life (unless I had to give my life to save others). So I would never give my life up for seconds of ultimate knowledge. Though the choice would be very tempting I would, at this moment in my life anyway, walk away. If the choice came to me when I'm an old man and I really have no reason to live out my days I'd take it. Though in my opinion gaining that much knowlegde would kill you before the fall. In my opinion understanding every thing, how the universe works, is to much for beings like us to comprehend.
