| Post subject: | Music and Moods |
I'm not talking about music that excites or inspires...

I'm thinking more relaxing, contemplative kinds of music, like instrumental or even meditative type things.

I'd like to know...partly because I'd like suggestions for relaxing music myself, partly because I'm just curious. ^_^

EDIT: I've decided to expand the topic to include any music you listen to with regard to your mood at the time you are listening to it. For instance, what kinds of music do you listen to to get into a certain mood, be it relaxed, romantic, inspired etc.? Also, conversely (and this might be the same thing as the first question...or it might not), what kind of music do you listen to when you are in a certain mood (to sustain that mood rather than to get into it)?

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).
Edited by: Zhuge Liang at: 1/26/04 3:18 am
|

Sometimes it's relaxing to listen to some really energetic music, actually.
But above all, I guess if I have any ambient music, that relaxes me. Mostly dark ambient, though. :)

blut krieg sieg

|

Dark ambient...hmmm. :P

Probably not for me, but that's cool. I'd probably not like high energy too...if I'm chilling out.

I confess that I do like instrumental music. Sometimes classical, but at other times stuff like, oh, Jan Hammer. I guess it just depends upon how zoned out and relaxed I want to be at that moment.

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).
|

Light Jazz and Vocals are good to unwind to. Get you groovin' but in that "sit down and relax" kind of way.

Honestly, though, I don't have much music in that department, so I usually unwind to my playlist on random while playing a game on my computer or something. Usually I gear the songs to light 80s or early 90s stuff, though.

~Chris

|

Well, I listen to all kinds of music. ^^;; I have a different section of artists for the different moods I'm in. Sometimes, listening to Black Metal actually does relax me. I've fallen asleep to it before. ^^;; I also fell asleep once when my family and I were watching the fireworks [and they were acting like drunk fools], so I guess I can pretty much fall asleep to anything... XD

If you want something soft and soothing, I'd suggest anime music. Not the openings and endings, but the instrumetal songs. The Utena, InuYasha, Angel Sanctuary (the one from the manga), and Rurouni Kenshin OSTs are pretty good. I also have a love for songs from musicals, especially Les Miserables. Some more common [and old] artists are the Beatles, the Doors, the Rolling Stones, the Eagles, and the Animals. Of course, they're pretty popular, so I'm sure you've heard them before. J-Rock kicks ass, too. I'm in love with Malice Mizer, Gackt, Moi dix Mois, Seikima II, and Dir en Grey. ^^; I also listen to Black Metal, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, and other Rock bands. XD XD My tastes range very much, as you would be able to tell if you saw my playlist. I currently have 1,949 songs on my current playlist alone, so it's kind of hard to get in all of the artists I love. As long as it's not Country, Christian, and American Pop, chances are I might like it.

|

I am such a sucker for instrumental music. It just sooths me for some reason, especially guitar or piano. I don't know why.

|

Well, if you still want relaxing, I'd suggest Evanescence or Nelly Furtado...they relax me

If I feel like getting pumped, I'll put on some Kylie Minogue or any other pop-ish dance type music. Stacey Orico is really good in my opinion and worth a good listen.

|

I absolutely love serious, deep instrumental music...really, most of my mp3 collection is instrumental! Other than that, I love pop music (especially J-pop and '80s pop), with all its bright and energetic beats--for instance the song I'm listening to now is Banana Moon Love from the Macross II OST, the famed "Minmei Defense Song" (those of you who have seen Macross or Robotech know what I'm talking about). However, I'm do have a small sampling of more modern rock artists in my collection.

Neo Kamidake, Resident Gundam Fanboy

"Lieutenant Amada, I only have one question. If I had to say my one favourite classical piece, it would 100% be Mozart's Requiem, which I've listened to a few times. Apart from classical, just to sit back and enjoy myself, I like a bit of Burzum, Graveland and Bathory. Nothing like a bit of Black Metal to soothe the soul.
However, all the guys around here are into drum 'n' bass and rap. Not the best taste. :P

blut krieg sieg

|

Black Sabbath.I listen to it whenever. Without them there wouldn't BE a Mettalica. I also listen to Rammstein. I may listen to Cat Stevens or Classical Gas once in a while. Mostly I just sab out. Try downloading these songs from sabbath:

N.I.B.
The Wizard
Paranoid ( putting it here for people who never heard it)
Iron Man (see paranoid explanation)
War Pigs (see paranoid explanation)
Sweet Leaf
Into the Void
Lord of This World
After Forever
Snowblind
Tomorrows Dreams
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Symptom of the UniverseElectric Funeral
Megalomania
Never Say Die

and if you're willing, play Doom while listing to some Sabbath.

|
