Post subject: An RPG? With dice and and stats? My gosh!
PostPosted: Wed May 05, 2004 7:16 am
Seems Neelick may allow me to set up an RPG here, but first lets see if any one would be interested.

Dice roll system, which means it isn't free style.

The lay out is something that's became very popular amoung my little group of rpers.

Multipule universes.

What does this mean? Simple. It's more that one dimension. Several characters cross these dimensions (for reasons you will find out later) trying to save them.

So you would be in the Trigun series for one mission. Tenchi Muyo OVA for the next. Tenchi Universe next. Then Outlaw Star. Then Gundam Wing.

You get the idea.

If this is accepted, I can not allow massive amounts of players. Meaning... only 5-6 people. Please.

The system is BESM 2. If you are unfamilar with this system, that's fine. I am well versed in it and can aid you. BESM 1 was used in the Tenchi Muyo RPG system, so you know, and uses Tri-stats. Body, Mind, Soul.

The basics of Z-RPG.

Firstly, this is a dice roll RPG. Not freestyle. Meaning, that rather you are able to pull something off or not is determined by a dice roll against statistics you have made. I am not a fan of the D&D system, but I like BESM, and ESPECIALLY like BESM 2. It's simple enough to where you don't have to have the rule book on hand to remember most of the rules and even attributes. Heck, you could completely wing the thing. Rolls will not always be made. You don't need a Body stat check to see if you can pick up a pencil, or a mind stat check to see if you remember to breath. =P Thus, I only make rolls when two characters are in direct conflict of each other (who can grab that pencil the fastest!) or when it's something challenging (your 3 year old son is pinned under a car, and you have to flip it to get it off him). Of coarse, like some things are instant successes, some things are instant failures. IE: Ayeka trying to pull her space ship out of the water. Even IF Ayeka is super strong, I doubt she could pull around something bigger than a house.

Also, as a non-freestyle, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, don't play other people's characters or NPCs. This is semi-alright in Tenchi Muyo Survivor because you are role playing already established characters. These characters are NORMALLY completely and totally creations of their owners. Also, say there's a minor NPC that seems to be a little girl. I may have plans for her doing something later. For all you know she could be a half-Saiyan sent to kill the lot of you, and turn out to be a major villian. This is why we don't do this. (I especially don't want this for one major reason, there is a shape shifter villian that you will encounter fairly often). Also, there may be times when established characters from Anime's do something out of character. Like Vash suddenly snapping and shooting up a whole town, or Ryoko and Ayeka being nice to each other 24/7. Often, there are reasons for things like this. Don't get your feather's to ruffled because your favorite character does something odd.

Secondly, some GMs make it their goal in a campaign to kill all the players. I don't do that. I never will. That doesn't mean you should take stupid risks, but in all truth, unless it's a major turning point in the game, you are more likely to be killed by another player than an actual enemy.

Which brings us to another point. These are your characters. Should they become angry with each other and fight (which is likely given some of the stressful situations they will be under), please don't let that effect your relationships with each other. Say if Pie Eyed Dragon, for example, was playing a Vegeta wanna-be, and a character Neelick made insulted his honor... there is a good chance PED's character will try to severely harm, or even kill, Neelick's character. These are your characters. Obviously, PED doesn't want to severely harm or kill Neelick. Also, if you are put into a convincing situation by another player, there may be little I can do to bail you out. I can only have some one's gun jam, or an NPC run in and stop some one, or budge the damage dealt so your character BARELY survives, so many times.

Also, there will be points in the game, where I will have a very sick outlook, which goes something like "If you die, you die". Though those will be rare... often during major boss battles.

But as I said, so long as you don't do something ridiculous that could get you killed, like try to rape OVA Ryoko, or tell Vegeta he is a stupid honorless weakling the moment you meet him, you should be fine. Though sometimes this is in character for you to do, which brings me to another point. Try not to make your character to hard to work with. For the love of pete...

Thirdly, this isn't completely in enforcement, but you can't play your favorite character. You can't be Vash the Stampede or Son Goku, or any character from any major series that had more than five seconds of screen time and had more than two lines. Besides, you probably would lack the points you need to make such a character. However, I won't completely disreguard the idea of say, what would Han Solo be like in the Slayer's universe? Though I still frown on it. If you arn't very creative, you may have to do that. Or you could always base the character off of you, which may not be a great idea, because in that instance, anything that happens to said character (you) is taken 10 times more personally.

Also, I won't hold this against you, but if I have to choose between people to let in (I hope to God I don't), chances are those that make the most coherant messages are the one's I let in. No offense intended at all, but if your request to join goes something like "wil u lte me pyla 2?" I am less likely to choose you. Sorry if that makes any one mad or feel bad...

I also want people to post as often as possible. I work Sunday-Wednsday in an extensive shift. But I still will try to post if I am able. Thus, I would appreciate people posting every day when nessicary. Often, I will wait for every one to post their character's reaction before I post again. Which means you should post, even if it is "I remain silent". Likewise, if you and another player are having a heated debate, try to slow it down for people that arn't online. NOthing is quite as irritating as coming into the RPG to find two extra pages in the topic you are posting in, which is two people posting back and forth, when your character had something to respond to that got buried under a ton of garbal. Nextly, the three strike system. When the rest of the cast has to wait a week for your character to answer a yes or no question, I will probably step in, and respond for your character and MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE give you a strike. Three strikes, and I remove you from the game... PLEASE NOTE, I AM NOT A JERK. If you say ahead of time "I will be gone to a convention for two weeks" then there is no strike, and we determine one of two things. A) I play your character in your absence (usually they go to sleep or wander off to do something else so I don't screw anything up). B) We go on Hiatus until your return. No strike, nothing. Also, if you come to me after you were gone for a month and say "I was in a car wreck and fractured my vertebrae, I have been in the hospital all this time." I will remove your strike. If you had two strike prior to that, and I killed of your character in your absense... I will TRY to ressurrect them to the best of my ability. But if I can't, well, then we both arn't going to be feeling that great, seeing as I have a tendancy to beat myself up for stupid mistakes. Rightly though, as assinine as it sounds, you shouldn't have had those other two strikes.

Lastly, this is not going to be a very battle oriented. Depending on the dimension the characters are in. So if you are joining just to kick some names and take some butt, then you might want to step back and realize that won't always be the case. This also means that non-combatants will play an equally important role from time to time.

All of these are more guidlines than rules, and only become rules when things come in extreme cases. I am actually quite leniant. I am just pointing out the mistakes I have made, and I have seen others make, so you may learn from them.

Z-RPG; History

Z-RPG started on an old message board I never went to as a Tenchi Muyo RPG that was lost when this board crashed. Rather than pick up where he left off, the GM decided that he would just make a different RPG, that instead would be inter-dimensional.

Thus, Z-RPG 1 was created two years ago, and is still going to this day with six players.

Alstarious Alnoir (Tenchi Universe)
Karei Hakuma (Zeiram, the Animation)
Haikido (Trigun)
Edwurd Thysof (Outlaw Star)
Jaina Proudmore (Slayers)
Motoko Hakabi (Akira)

(if you can guess which one is my character, you get a cookie!)

Shortly after this, he created Z-RPG 2 to allow people that didn't get in Z-RPG 1 to play. Sadly, this one was scrapped later when he A) Lost interest, and B) Became to busy. Though he does host a second game done over live chat with four players.

I picked up Z-RPG 2, and started it over with my own cast of villians. It is currently nearing month 3, and has a whooping nine players, which fell to 8 after one person dropped. I should have never allowed that many people, because it's kinda hard remembering to wait for them all. ^_^;

If any one is interested, please say so, and remember. Minimum 2-3 players. 5-7 (7 if my bleeding heart acts up again >_<) maximum.

Thank you, and I will probably post this again when and if a forum is created for it.

Oh, and my AIM screen name is SSJ7Silverwolf, if anyone wants to talk to me live.

"If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales! It would surely outweigh the sands of the seas -- no wonder my words have been impetuous."

~Job
Job 6:1-2

"I said to Life, 'I would hear Death speak'. And Life raised her voice a little higher and said, 'You hear him now'."

~Kahlil Gibran

I'm definatly interested, but could you give us some more info on the characters, looking at your previous list I'm guessing they have to come from an anime world?

~ Links ~
[ My Final Fantasy Site | Tenchi Board ]

Count me in on this!
Is there a possibility of us creating characters you'd most likely find in an anime universe just to add some originality?

Actually, I said that you do. ^_^; Hee hee...

Yup. Every one creates their own characters completely from scratch. Be as original as you possibly can. Here's the original rant that was a tad bit more detailed.

Quote:
Which brings us to another point.
