lol Now that he has a fast connection do you think he'll be around the board as often? I love my broadband. I'd sooner not use the internet than to not have broadband. ^.^

"Logic only gives a man what he needs."
"Magic gives him what he wants."

|

Broadband is indeed a blast.

I just upgraded from a 56K myself not to long ago. :P

The bad thing is that now the computer is always on, even when you're not there (which invites outside attack). Oh well, nothings perfect.

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).
|

Well for Broadband Newbies Its tme for school via Steve

I have been using broadband since 1998 :P so I am an expert.

1.Get a firewall. Zone alarm is the most known. If your networking your router should have one. Also windows XP has one but that sucks

2.GOOD virus scanner. Nothing is more important. Somthing good because you wlll be downloading alot more. Norton ect ect are good. Make sure it has real time scanning.

3. If your running Windows drop IE its a bad habit. Use firefox or opera. You will lessen your attacks alot cause theres no actiive X to mess with.

|

I done all them when I was using dial-up... Plus my Broadband came with a firewall. I have Firefox, Norton, Avast Anti-Virus, Zonealarm and the Broadband firewall as protection so I guess I'm pretty safe.

blank

|

DBD has been my "unofficial" broadband advisor. :P

I would just add that utilities like Adaware and Spybot are also key necessities.

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).
|

I need some advice. When I use BitTorrent it downloads at speeds between 1kbp/s and 7kbp/s. I turned off Zonealarm and my other firewall and the speed changed to over 20kbp/s...

I found a firewall called PeerGuardian which is made so you can use P2P software and have a firewall. What I need advice on is how can I make BitTorrent run faster and is it safe to use PeerGuardian and not ZA?

Edit: It's just jumped up again so it's 30-40 kbp/s.

blank

Edited by: Chibi Yosho at: 7/16/04 10:56 am
|

Chibi, bittorrent download speeds depend on the other people who are downloading the same thing you are. the more people and the more good connections the faster you're download rate will be.
I do suggest you download Bittornado, because it will help out with download speeds also because you can customize it to your connection.
And one more thing! Go to http://www.suprnova.org for almost any download you're looking for. Do be careful while downloading though, stupid ass adware is everywhere! GRR, but in the end, even with fighting all the adward its still worth it. ^.^ Holds his Chobits, Ai Yori Aoshi, Onagi Teacher, and Onagi Twins.

|
