Steven Spielberg will executive produce. The film is slated for release in the summer of 2006. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Constantine), Don Murphy (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) and Tom DeSanto (X-Men and X2: X-Men United) are attached to produce.

DreamWorks Head of Production Adam Goodman stated, "Steven and everyone at DreamWorks are very excited about the prospect of expanding the world of 'Transformers' into the live-action feature film arena. The possibilities for a thrilling action adventure are virtually endless, and a film holds the definite promise of expanding an already worldwide fan base to new audiences."

"This is a tremendous franchise that offers us the opportunity to create an inventive and thrilling action-adventure film," said Donald De Line, Vice Chairman, Motion Picture Group and President of Paramount Pictures. "We're happy to work with our colleagues at DreamWorks to develop this project with Hasbro. There couldn't be a better team to bring the 'Transformers' to the big screen."

"We are truly fortunate to have the best talent in the entertainment industry on board for the 'Transformers' movie and are excited at the opportunities this powerful collaboration will bring to the property," said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro's toys segment. Hasbro will also team up with Takara, who has been the co-developer of the Transformers brand since its beginning in the early 1980s.

"The 'Transformers' brand has always struck a chord with fans around the world and remains one of our strongest franchises since it was introduced 20 years ago," said Keita Satoh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Takara. "Together with Hasbro, DreamWorks and Paramount, we will bring the property to a new level for fans in the Japanese market, as well as around the world."

DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will distribute internationally.

In 1984, the Transformers brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the "Robots in Disguise," and quickly became a childhood rite of passage with a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and animated feature film. Twenty years later, a new generation of kids has discovered the excitement of the Transformers brand and the legendary characters, such as Optimus Prime and Megatron, that truly are "more than meets the eye." Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from Dreamwave Productions, which sold two million Transformers comic books last year.

*I'm sooooo excited!!!*

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).
|

Cuss in your head? Cuss outload if the movies sucks. I have never been a big fan of Transformers but I can see why some people love it. I doubt this movie will be any good and I'd like to pose a question...Why would you make a live action film of Transformers?

|

Are you kidding? Why WOULDN'T anyone want to make a live action Transformers movie? Can you imagine a live action Robotech, Gundam, or MechWarrior movie? That would be incredible!!!

I also would be upset if they screw it up. But this is Dreamworks here, not an amateurish company. The first Transformers movie after the opening battles was a piece of junk I admit, but still...the potential.

Plus (on a biased and personal note) I've been a Transformers fan since the first series came out. I'd absolutely love to see a live action version. Maybe it's a matter of personal taste, but heck, I mean there are things others love to death that I think are crap. Zoids??? Pokemon??? (not the games, but the cartoon and movie). To each their own.

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).
|

I was wondering how they were going to do the transformers. CGI would make more sense than making lots of giant robots. ~.~

blank

|

Thank you Zhuge.

The only reason I asked why would you make a live action movie of Transformers was because I don't think it can and/or will be done correctly. I have the same doubts about the live action Evagelion and Sailor Moon. CGI is getting better everyday but I don't think its good enough to use real actors and then go to CGI and not notice the differance. I draw that conclusion from Spiderman 2. I liked that movie alot but there were instances while Spiderman was swinging through the city and I could tell it was CGI. It wasn't too often as the scenes were moving fast and most probably didn't notice. But with Transformers I see longer scenes with CGI and worry the it might just end up being cheesy.

|

Live action Sailor Moon is pretty good, if you were a fan of Power Rangers, or you can ignore how silly the fights look.

|

With Dreamworks and Steven Spielberg behind it, I'm quite "optimistic" (a semi-pun, get it?) about the chances of it being good.

ZL

Empires wax and wane; states cleave asunder and coalesce.

"Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as the fire, steady as the mountain." A banner used by the Takeda clan of Kai (Sengoku Jidai era).
|

I have sort of a sixth sense when it comes to weather or not movies will be bad... and the whole idea of a live-action Transformers movie just makes my crap sense tingle. <<;

However, I have a feeling that Transformers fans will still get a kick out of it... but anyone else probably won't really care for it. Kind of like how the Resident Evil movie isn't very good, but since I'm a big RE fan, I still like it :D
| | |

Kori is not decreased! Hi guys!

Long time no see! How's everyone? I hope everyone had a great summer!

This is good news! I'Ve always wanted a live action Transformers movie! I just hope they stick with G1 and G2 characters!

When I was young, I've always liked the episode when Megatron and Optimus fought together, while the dinobots were holding back Devastator. It was just plain cool!

What are the things you want to see in the movie?

I'd like to see a couple of gestalts, but mostly Predaking!

*Looks at Devastator, Bruticus, Defensor and Superion on his shelf*

Of course, a big duel between Megatron and Optimus!

However, the movie has to be grim. Also, the physics has to be realistic. A big robot has to be heavy. I want to see damaged robots, fires, dark skies, etc. Hopefully, they'll have good voice acting!

Until next time, take care everyone!

|

DTM!!! Great to see you again!!!

I remember that episode. Megatron took the power chips from the other Decepticons and acquired all of their abilities. Then he challenged Optimus to an unfair duel. Man...I was (am) a real Transformers geek.
