I got the point; and went further - I think youtube is free advertising for these guys. If I see a show I like on there, and if it is available here - I'll go to the store and buy it! When I was a kid working on farms in the summer(jeez, do kids even do that anymore???), we learned an old addage - a real farmer never pays for a hat. That's because the tractor, seed, fertilizer, or other reps would give them to you to wear as free advertisement, whether or not you bought their product. Now you have to pay for a Holland, or John Deer hat. Companies would pay farmers to have their barns painted with advertisements.....now even logos are "intelecual property," and you can be sued for making your own Nike, or John Deer shirts. This has gone way to far, and the law usually sides with the big fish over the little guy. I worked in the fields (jobs they say Americans won't do - I did them), and I am still true to my farmer cred! I refuse to buy merchandise that advertises someone elses's product. They should pay me to wear it....and the same goes for youtube!!!! IMO. MTV and other stations blur out company logos in videos; is that to stave off lawsuits, or because they haven't been paid to advertise it??? hmmm now I shall comment on your vid..... |

Thanks. Yes indeed, that too is a point. I have purchased a number of music and anime items because of AMVs - which are technically infringement. The whole thing could be a done deal if someone would have the [censored] to step up and define the ambiguous terms by which these matters are judged. Of course that wouldn't change what you were talking about - but at least joe average could avoid having his whole life destroyed for some cute little video blog he decided to post on the net... |
