I just wanted to let everybody know I've been working on a new website lately. Its bascially a database about anime characters of just about any information I can find. Its just like the character profiles page on the Tenchi site, except its for any and all characters from any series.

The thing I think is unique and different about this site is the fact that anybody who wishes to submit information about a character not in the database, information that is incorrect, or new information on an exisiting character or series can do so by clicking the "Update" option.

Updates will be reviewed by a moderator (in this case I'm the only moderator at this time) before appearing the the database. The reason for this is to make sure that invalid and/or inappropriate information/pictures are added.

Up until now I've been focusing mainly on the programming aspect of the page making sure everything works correctly. Please report any bugs you might find when using the site to me. Either by neelick@noneedfortenchi.com or via posting in the forums here.

I haven't had much of a chance to really work on the graphics of the site themselves. As many of you know I'm not really that skilled of an artist. So if anybody has any ideas or stuff they've created that they think would look good on the site I'd really appreciate it. Frankly I'm not an artist and not very skilled at creating grahics Any CSS ideas too I'd like to see.

Take a look, and please submit any information you might have. If parts seem to be acting strange its because I've been looking into adding new features all the time. I'll try to do as much behind the scenes so it won't interfere with the main site.

Anyway be sure to register before adding new info. That way you'll get credit for adding the info. Only registered users have any hope of becoming a moderator. Tenchiboard members get first look at the site. I figure I'll start advertisting the site in about a week.

It should work now MDR. It turns out that the max characters allowed for a username was only 15. I increased it to 50 so your login should work now.

Yeah graphics are my weak point. I fully acknowledge that it needs better graphics. And general layout.

I'm planning on adding user image gallery containing all images of any particular character (no adult material).

I'm also planning on adding all the characters to each series page. A friend suggested having each character have an avatar but that could be difficult to program it to be done automatically. I mean how do you tell a computer to zero in on a person's face?

Trying to find just the face could be an interesting project but it seems a little overkill. Why not just have a specific avatar field for each character and force the users to do the hard work?

The site is looking pretty cool. I'm working on a database driven site myself now although I keep on stopping as I try to redesign bits. It always takes me a while to get back in php (Classes without header files?! Madness).

Thanks for the idea linden. I was thinking that too. I was hoping to keep it as automated as possible, but like you said, it would be very very difficult.

If there's anything I can help you with Linden let me know. I'm fairly new to PHP but its such a neat language, I've been doing a LOT with it lately. I haven't even designed a webpage without some PHP in it at all lately.

Anyway, anybody interested, I'd like to see if you see something I've missed. Or any improvements. Like I said my graphics skills are... lacking.

Suggestion - sticky login, like we have here, makes life easier...
