Hi everybody. I'm kinda lmited in my intenet access right now. The place we're staying claimed it had Intenet access, but it turns out there isn't any really. RIght now I'm sneaking some from a neighbor. I'll be able to catch up with what I was doing when I get back home. Sometime this upcoming weekend should be home.

ANyway I logged in today and got the following e-mail. I'm not sure how many of you are aware that the old board is still there. Its no in use at all so I don't care if the convert it but I thought you'd get a kick of the e-mail they sent me.

Just a reminder this is for the old ezboard, this board will have no changes.

My name is Peyton and I'm your ezboard Customer Service Rep. We have exciting news about a major upgrade to ezboard. We have been working hard on developing an improved message board system based on input from members like you. We're calling the new version "Yuku", which comes from the Aboriginal word for "tree" and is meaningful because the platform provides a fertile place where communities of passionate people can grow.

We are now in the process of upgrading all ezboard communities to Yuku.

Forums, posts and security settings will remain unchanged. So will moderator permissions, banned member settings, posticons, smilies and member accounts . At the account level, avatars, signatures, profile information, ezSupporter subscriptions, user titles, post counts and post history will remain with the account.

Community Chest balances and Gold Community subscriptions will transfer along with the board. All your ezboard URLs will redirect to Yuku so that you won't lose any traffic.

On Yuku, you will continue to enjoy Gold Community features such as sticky topics, hot topics, invisible forums, chat, MBA and many more popular features found today on ezboard.

In addition, we are proud to announce the availability of many new features:

Hahahaahaaa!!! So they finally are doing it.

Yuku thus far (and believe me when I tell you that I have been following their "moves" for a while now) has proven to be buggy, unreliable, and unprofessional (staff and customer service wise). They don't live up to their promises, and their current pricing scheme is set up to milk money from users as much or more than ezboard "gold" and "supporter" ever did. And they've even had a change of ownership recently (from Robert Labatt (the guy who screwed up things in the 2005 fiasco, which cost this board 10 months worth of posts...and under whose leadership ezboard failed to update/upgrade anything at all for 2-3 years while the competition grew) to Kickapps) to boot.

Even though we are not as active here as we were on ezboard, I for one am glad to be well away from that sleazy bunch. I say, let them convert that place. I don't care. We will never go back there!

Yuku sux. I can't even define what it is. Its a crappier message board system than Ezboard ever was and its way too late to try to become like Myspace or Facebook.

What's it been now? 3 years since ezboard "Hack" happened? They were woring on it before that happened and STILL don't have a live system. That's rediculous.

Aren't you following this a little too close? Yeah EZboard/Yuku sucks, but that was 3 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we switched to phpBB, but we should move on to something else.

1) Neelick just announced an upgrade: http://www.noneedfortenchi.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=3788 We will be using the new phpbb 3.0 format.

2) Yuku wrote Neelick the email and posted the announcement of the old board's pending "migration" which is why this thread came up

3) Some people still stumble upon the old board, which is why this is somewhat relevant (I personally think all data/threads from the old board should be closed and deleted; I believe we have an archived backup elsewhere...if not I guess we'll leave it open at Yuku though I rather hate that option).

We've moved on from it with regard to TB. It's the continued incompetence over there that keeps us fascinated though, since one would think they'd clean up their act after all this time.

Yes, I'm planning on upgrading soon (Probalby tonight or tomorrow) to phpbb version 3. There's a lot of new features there (Most of which I'm not familiar with )

The most important thing though is that a board is easy to use etc. I'm happy with phpbb for a number of reasons. One is my familiarity with the PHP programming language. It means I can make customizations as necessary. If the board were in another language such as CGI, I would lose an amont of control.

Anyway, as for the yuku post. I still get a kick out of how things are going at Ezboard/Yuku. Its kinda been a hobby of ZL and myself to see how the company itself is killing itself. I mean think about it. They had one of, if not the most popular message board systems out there. And since the "Hack" and their careless handling of that situation, they've totally lost any influence they've had.

Compound that with the half truths and/or outright lies over the years they've told its entertaining at best to see their fate. Its too bad really that the person who started the downfall, LaBatt has left the sinking ship in the hands of others.

There *is* an old board backup. I believe MJH made one and it's on her site somewhere. We should post only one thread, say a sticky, and direct people here.
