I know we had a thread floating around for anime recommendations before, but that was underneath a topic with an unrelated title so I figured we could use a dedicated thread for this. This is where you can post about any anime show, OVA, or movie that you've watched and love! I think I'll start us off with a couple of suggestions and why don't we see if we can't get the ball rolling here Excel Saga: A very funny parody anime show that probably takes a crack at just about everything at some point. No genre or show is safe in Excel Saga, everything is up for some good-natured ribbing =). If you're looking for a nice lighter show, or something to make you smile, give Excel Saga a try. Just don't try to marathon this show, I made that mistake the first time I watched it. It's fantastic, but best enjoyed when watched in segments (probably five episodes at a time). ![]() Karas: This is a phenomenal anime that you MUST watch if you enjoy action. I'll forewarn you that this was originally an OVA, but as it's being sold in the U.S., it was condensed into two movie parts. I found this out the hard way, when the first movie stopped directly in the middle of the action, so definitely keep that in mind and I'd suggest watching it all at once (Each movie is about an hour and thirty minutes). Now, Karas is about an overlapping dimension of demons that is slowly blurring the line between the realm of humans and demons. The crow guardian, Karas, is the one person that can keep the balance between the two worlds and it is his job to defeat lord Eko, who is trying to convert the world into his own kingdom. The story of Karas is quite fun, but what is even better is the animaton. No expense was spared, even the 3D animation looks stellar, and the opening sequence made my jaw drop, watching this on my Netflix DVR, is exactly what brought me back into anime and made me want to go relive all of my old favorite shows and find new shows. Give Karas some of your time and it will keep you entertained for an evening. This is also a good "gateway" anime, as people unfamiliar with anime can watch this and enjoy it as well ^_^. ![]() Wolf's Rain: Okay, I'm going to warn you, this is an extremely SAD anime. I mean the ending made me cry and I don't cry watching shows all that often O_o. The show is about a struggle between wolves, who have learned to shift the fashion in which humans perceive them, and the humans that want to eradicate them. The wolves, are looking for "Paradise", which is essentially wolf heaven, so that they can be free and escape from the brutal reality of their post-apocalyptic world. Aside from having good animation and an excellent plot, this Wolf's Rain has a voice cast that is absolutely star-studded. Nearly every major character is voiced by an actor that has been around in many shows or is extremely recognizable. I'll list a few just for the heck of it. Crispin Freeman as Tsume (Alucard in Hellsing) Johnny Yong Bosch as Kiba (also Rossiu in Gurren Lagann) Joshua Seth as Hige (Kazuki Yostuga in Duall Parallel Trouble Adventures) Kari Wahlgren as Cher Degre (She played Noike in OVA3 xD) Mona Marshall as Toboe (Ryoko in OVA3) Robert Buchholz as Hubb Lebowski (Gene Starwind anyone?) Sherry Lynn as Cheza (Sasami and Kiyone) Steven Blum as Darcia (Spike in Cowboy Bebop) Note that there is some animal violence in here (mainly wolves fighting one another) and the story is extremely depressing, but it's meant to get your mind thinking and for you to enjoy. I'll mention it again, if you're feeling down, pass on this for now and come back to it when you're happy again ^_^. ![]() Oh!/Ah! My Goddess: This series is absolutely fantastic! It falls somewhere in my top 5, which tends to fluctuate a little bit but it's generally pegged at number 4. I don't know that I can say enough about the series in a little blurb but I'll try

Black Heaven - An anime about how Hard Rock is one of the most powerful things in the universe, Even though it has somewhat serious looking, it is very much a comedy, a great anime, among my top 5, Black Heaven rotates between 2nd, 3rd and 4th a lot, even though it has its comedy aspects, the soundtrack is fantastic and the story is very well done, it also has a pretty star studded cast aswell, along with the fact it was from the same creator as El Hazard and the first Tenchi OVA, Hiroki Hayashi Oji Tanaka - John Billingslea (Jet Black - Cowboy Bebop) Yoshiko Tanaka - Michelle Ruff (Yoko - Gurren Lagann) Gen Tanaka - Ian Hawk (Jim Hawking - Outlaw Star) Kotoko - Emily Brown (Melfina - Outlaw Star) Eriko - Sherry Lynn (Sasami - Tenchi Muyo) Hamil - Melissa Williamson ("Major" Matoko - Ghost in the Shell, Hilda - Outlaw Star) Joseph Watanabe - Steven Blum (Spike - Cowboy Bebop) Oji's Boss - Bob Papenbrook (Nobuyuki/Yosho - Tenchi Muyo) Sato's Wife - Wendee Lee (Faye - Cowboy Bebop,Kiyone - Tenchi in Tokyo) Oji's Sake Vendor - Jack Emmet (Ron McDougal - Outlaw Star) And thats not everybody, just the main ones

Samurai X: This is one of my favorite collections of all time. This collection is the OVA series to the Rurouni Kenshin series that most of us have probably seen on Toonami back in the day. Anyway its a collection of six episodes on three DVD 's spanning the entire life of the main character Himura Kenshin. The first is collection is Trust, the second is Betrayal, and the third is Reflections. Basically its the story of child who witnesses his whole killed before his eyes and after that moment becomes an assassin in Japan historical Meiji Era. Visuals are amazing voice acting is superb, and the storyline is incredible. This series is not for everyone as it can be slow in some parts but it is amazing nonetheless. If you haven't yet check it out. okay this next I have to both recommend and warn you...some of you may be offended by this show others of you will think its hilarious. Shin Chan: This is by far one of the funniest anime series I have ever come across. The storyline is basically it follows Shin Nohara along with his family, friends, neighbors, and pretty much every person he comes across with. There is no definite or long term goal with this show like there is with other anime series, so it pretty plays out like a sitcom. Those of you who have seen it will know what i'm talking about. Anyway watch and enjoy but remember you've been warned. ![]() Enjoy |

Now and Then, Here and There - Generally when people say they've seen a sad anime, Grave of the Fireflies usually pops up, sometimes Wolf's Rain, even the romantic type ones like Clannad are brought up (although I cried more because that one was so damn slow, lol), but one gem of a tragedy that is never brought up, is Now and Then, Here and There, and I can tell you, it is easily the saddest/most depressing anime I've ever seen, basically as I have to put it "Scorched Earth Emotional Torture", from top to bottom its just one thing after another. But don't think that just because it has terrible things in it, that its just that, its a masterpiece, Its easily one of the best anime I've ever seen aswell, and I would recommend it about as highly as I can, I think its something non-anime viewers should see aswell, because most would look at this and think its just a kids show, but 2 episodes in would eat their words on the spot

Serial Experiments Lain: I just started watching this yesterday with Dagon and I'm up to episode 4 of 13/ can already say that I love it too! When I first stated watching I realized that there's an enormous pantheon of voice actors Pioneer got their hands on for the dub! I'll list some of the big names for you guys =D! -Bridget Hoffman (Nia from Gurren Lagann) -Petrea Burchard (credited as Celeste Burch, this is the only other anime she's ever done aside from the Tenchi series) -Emily Brown (Melfina from Outlaw Star) -Dorothy ELIAS-FAHN (Meryl Stryfe in Trigun and Amane from Tenchi GXP) -Ian Hawk (Jim from Outlaw Star) -Jamieson K PRICE (Lordgenome from Gurren Lagann) -Julie MADDALENA (Sakuya in Tenchi in Tokyo, Ura in El Hazard) -Sherry LYNN (Sasami, Kiyone Makibi from Tenchi series. She's been in a HUGE number of things though) -Robert BUCHHOLZ (Gene Starwind in Outlaw Star and Hubb Lebowski in Wolf's Rain) -Lenore ZANN (Aisha Clan-Clan Outlaw Star) -Melissa Williamson (Hilda from Outlaw Star) If you haven't heard of this, you should definitely look into it, it falls under the genre of psychological and somewhat cyber-punk. Lain makes you think about how often times people act differently on the internet than they do in reality.

Noein: I'll admit that I found this one completely through a fluke. I was browsing my Netflix DVR for anime that I could watch for free and this was one of the series that happened to be available so I decided to give it a go. I came into it without any previous knowledge, I'd only read the description that was provided so it was all a new experience to me

NEEDLESS - I had started a thread about Needless a week or 2 ago, but after having seen it, I can say I would recommend it highly. Its a fantastic show, and in laymen's terms, its basically an adult version of Dragonball Z, its fast paced, over the top in every way, and then some, hysterical, and pretty much personifies the definition of epic, it made me feel like I did when I watched Dragonball Z as a kid, action, adventure, yelling out attacks, lol you get the picture, and even though it comes off very action oriented, that doesnn't mean the story is weak, quite the contrary, in fact, some twist and turns even had me going "I never would have expected that". Its got some ecchi in it, but what show past 2006 DOESN'T have ecchi in it, in some form or another? A little synopsis, The 3rd world war has happened, and a Black Spot is all that can be seen where a bomb was dropped in Japan, those who live in the spot exhibit supernatural abilities through fragments, they are called Needless, the pharmaceutical company SIMEON has basically taken over the spot, Enter Adam Blade, Eve and Cruz, along with there gang of friends, and you have one hell of an adventure in the form of Needless
